  • Valentine Roundup

    February 14th, 2014

I suppose I’ve made more of a fuss over Valentine’s Day on this blog in previous years. Not sure why it kind of escaped me this time around, but since I didn’t do a countdown or themed posts, here are a few links to “Valentine” goodies (I use the holiday label loosely).

I may return with more as the day goes on!

Andertoons has a nice collection of 1966 Batman Valentines.

These are a must-see for any fan of old school Batman.

What a great alternative to standard Valentines.

  • Alien and Predator as Little Golden Books

    February 11th, 2014

If these were actually real…I hope (well, know) my father would have gotten them for me when I was a child.

(Dad…look at Predator! How excellent is this?)

Would it be in bad taste to paste these over the covers of books I give to other peoples’ children? Just checking.

  • NC Winters

    February 10th, 2014

I’ve been a fan of NC Winters for years, but catching this image brought me back to his portfolio for a fresh look:

If you’ve never seen his work, I highly recommend it.

  • Steampunk Mountain Lamp

    February 9th, 2014

Thanks to Ulrike for showing me this lovely lamp.

    il_570xN.512239067_sjzo

This one-of-a-kind table lamp is expertly crafted from a perfect amalgamation of modern electrical components and upcycled vintage and antique materials. It is comprised almost entirely of brass, steel, copper, glass and iron (it’s very heavy). Flip the switch for the eerie plasma light effect, and then push the left shift key to turn on the incandescent lights.

The proliferation of steampunk modifications out there has made me pretty picky…but I think this one is a very worthy effort.

  • The Faerie Market: Moth Clip

    February 8th, 2014

Sometimes “there’s a bug in your hair!” isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

While pricey, I admire the craftsmanship on this Emperor Gum Moth Hair Clip.

    il_570xN.461956742_para

I have a bizarre habit of considering accessories according to what unusual museum exhibit I’d hypothetically be likely to wear them to…plenty of entomological displays came to mind for this one.

Would you wear pretty bugs, birds and beasts in your hair?

  • Christophe Gilland

    February 7th, 2014

I’ll start off with two creatures by Christophe Gilland that caught my eye. Fine skill in questionable anatomical correctness:

Look at the insane amount of detail in these sketches (click for slightly larger image)! He is one of the talented folks, popping up here and there, who elevate the wild meandering of doodles to an artform.

  • Gelaskins: Jennybird Alcantara

    February 6th, 2014

I was browsing Gelaskins art and came across this design by Jennybird Alcantara.

I would love this Samsung Galaxy S III case so much! Sadly, due to medical bills, I can’t buy such frivolous indulgences…even if they are only $15.

    s3

On the wish list is goes!

Anyone have Gelaskins on gadgets and devices? Which design?

  • Deconstructed Sofa

    February 5th, 2014

Are you ready for Anthropologie’s Deconstructed Sofa? Yep…this is actually a thing.

    s1

Apparently, a bunch of old pillows tied to a sofa frame left on a curb can be marketed as postmodern and sold for $4,298.

    s2

    Thanks, Liz!
