Something fans of Oddities may not know is that Ryan Matthew is also one of the owners of Against Nature, a lower east side atelier that specializes in bespoke suits.
From the website:
Inspiration is culled from a wide range of sources, yielding a distinctly contemporary collection that nonetheless recalls the fine craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sartorial elegance of an earlier epoch.
For those wondering where Ryan gets his amazing suits…now you know.
While most contemporary clothing is mass produced on factory machines, Against Nature offers the opportunity to step back into a bygone age when clothing was custom tailored with choice fabric and impeccably measured to the exact specifications of the customer.
The store offers a wide variety of the finest quality imported material, and each suit is entirely hand crafted with multiple fittings over a one to two month period to ensure perfect construction.
Ryan crafts the perfect accessories (Victorian sensibility with a bit of edge) for suits of this caliber: rings, cufflinks, tie bars, stick pins, money clips, belts, bracelets.
No, they are not all skulls and bones…I just happen to like these…
Commissioning a suit from Against Nature is undoubtedly an experience of luxury- far from the common off-the-rack perusals where nothing seems to fit quite right.

I’ve seen some nicely detailed pendants, but this one takes the prize in an all new way!
Fable and Fury has an incredible collection of jewelry, a number of which are now on my wish list! As an added bonus, prices are very reasonable.
I’ve waded through a sea of advertising requests from sites that clearly do not belong on this blog (prefab vinyl siding, drug companies…you name it). So it’s a real treat to have support from sites that make one of a kind, dark delights I would personally add to my own collection of oddities.
I present: The Black Broom, purveyors of fine occult and dark unique wares.
Unique, indeed! Everything on the site is handcrafted and not available elsewhere. You’ll find things for the home, like this Devil Spoon:
Or if you prefer the devil on your wall…
I was really impressed with this necklace version of “The Kiss.” Truly haunting, and superbly crafted.
They carry one of my favorite alchemical symbols, the ouroboros (even the packaging is beautiful).
The roster of infamous man and myth that shows up in their products is worth perusing simply for the history! Gods and villains from a variety of cultures are cast in stone and metal, with a thorough description to accompany each piece (really, you’ll find everything from ancient legends to iconic lowbrow pop art).
You can even have them on buttons for your clothing!
Some objects are classy and refined, with a sinister twist.
…and their skull replicas appear disarmingly real.
Now, even though I’m a cheap bastard, I must say that their prices are quite good for handcrafted objects, meticulously constructed from quality material. A number of these items are going on my wish and gift lists.

The holidays are coming up, which means I don’t spend a penny on myself because I want to make sure my loved ones are taken care of.
If I had some change to spare, I’d DEFINITELY buy myself one of these incredible rings from Nicolette’s Jewelry.
This iridescent vintage glass ring blows my mind. It looks like abstract science art!
The best part? It’s ADJUSTABLE so I could make it fit my freakishly small fingers.
I like the green one even better because it’s vertical.
That one is on the very top of my wish list!
I’m calling this roundup “#1” since there may be others before Halloween rolls around. Here are a few choice Etsy items to celebrate the season.
Skeleton Cameo (definitely on my wish list)

Sterling Silver Skull (love the style on this one)

Now THIS is a Halloween sweater!

And some amazing hand painted heels by taylorsays:

Here’s an actual Victorian collector’s item:

Got any favorite DIY Halloween items? There’s a lot to wade through on Etsy when doing a simple search, so I’d love to see any hand picked favorites.
In browsing Etsy, I came across some great creations from Ragtrader. The vintage style rings are ADJUSTABLE (a real treat because I have unreasonably slender fingers that no adult rings come close to fitting).
Although I’m not a Taurus, I would happily wear the Taurus Zodiac Ring, as a reminder of (or fitting tribute to) those nearest and dearest to me born under this sign.

Also in Scorpio (another favorite) and Leo.
This vintage Going Steady Charm Necklace is pretty amazing. Both halves of the couple appear to be male (perhaps one has a 1950’s bob haircut if it’s a hetero charm?), but I like it. I’m an old fashioned romantic.

The Silver Love Letter Necklace appeals to me because I like jewelry filled with secrets.

I’ve seen plenty of music inspired jewelry, but these pieces by Darkcloud are…no pun intended…a cut above most others.
Yes, they are pricey, but the craftsmanship is superb. Look at the detail!
(I’m posting these with my lovely housemate in mind!)
I’m not big on man jewelry (save for wedding rings on married men, of course). But this gear ring by Kinekt is pretty darn cool:
Girls looking for a regular (or wedding) ring for your favorite gear geek…don’t miss this one.
Click the video link on the Product page to see how the gears move. It’s awesome!
I can’t spend an extra penny right now, but I wish I could order one of these fantastic double helix necklaces from Morphologica.
Each piece starts as a sketch on paper, gets digitally modeled and laser cut.
