There is face painting, and there is total face transformation. Some artists are so skilled with costume makeup that they create elaborate optical illusions on the canvas of the human face.
It must take a great deal of patience (for the artist and model) to make these masterpieces happen.

Have you come across any incredible makeup this season? Have you painted your own face?
On October 8th, the sun had a series of active spots that made it resemble a happy, glowing Jack O’ Lantern. Isn’t it sweet?
It reminds me of the flaming pumpkin at the end of Disney’s Sleepy Hollow…only in a better mood.

(Thanks Liz, for being the first to show me this!)

I’m keeping the vintage theme going today with an amazing series of screenshots put together by My Monster Memories.
I might make a lot of enemies by saying this, but I’m rather tired of zombies (I even stopped watching The Walking Dead!). However, the original Night of the Living Dead is a classic film. Barbara certainly has her melodramatic moments, and the following images display a single brief emotional meltdown (as she recounts how she and her brother were attacked by zombies).
I want to make a flip book out of these. Scrolling through, I’m enjoying this old favorite in a brand new way!

Excellent job, My Monster Memories!
Vintage Halloween is tied for first place in the countdown poll, so I give you these photographs of what costumes and masks used to look like before they were sold in bulk at party supply stores (and made slutty).
Vintage masks are, in some ways, creepier than the highly detailed rubber monster masks on sale today.

Second one from the left: amazing.

I just got engrossed in Haunted Overload for too long. It is an attraction filled with beautifully wicked things to look at, and their use of ambient lighting perfectly compliments the props and scenery.
From the Haunted Overload mission statement:
Haunted Overload is simply one of the most creative and unique haunted attractions in New England. Now located on the DeMeritt Hill Farm on Route 155 in Lee NH. The show has twice been voted one of the top 13 haunted attractions in the country.

Focusing on quality, we are committed to giving the customer the ultimate Halloween experience at an affordable price. Nowhere else can you see huge monsters looming over the crowd, some as tall as 34 feet. The authentic farm location provides the perfect backdrop for the hundreds of lighted pumpkins and movie quality sets.

The haunt is changed and expanded each year to give the patron something new and exciting to experience.

Has anyone visited?
In 1965, Spanish company Laya produced a line of Munsters squeak toys.
Does anyone know why Bugs Bunny is involved in this? I couldn’t find much info about the company.

Interesting color choices for the toys. Though I remember also being surprised when I first saw a color photo of the Munsters (I’m not sure what I expected…real life grayscale?).
