I haven’t posted the series of sci-fi inspired snowflake designs currently circulating around the Web, because they are showing up everywhere. However, in accordance with my odd penchant for Predator inspired items, I can’t neglect this one:
-
You don’t have to be a Slayer fan (though it sure wouldn’t hurt) to appreciate this display.
-
A little gem from one of the masterminds at Unusual Life.

I have an odd love of “Santa in space” themed illustrations (as you can see here).

Amazing design from Mike Mitchell:

Look at the wood grain effect on this gingerbread house!

A vintage Krampus picture that is new to my collection this year:

When Christmas comes…without joy:

Ah, the ghosts of cleanings past…

Finally, card that gets at the true meaning of Christmas:

I have to admit that I find this pretty hilarious…and not just because I’m a Crazy Cat Lady in training:

This belongs somewhere in the Holiday Hair Hall of Fame:

Say what you will about Disney, but those Imagineers put together one hell of a light display on It’s a Small World:

Sense of direction is not always my strong point, but I’m fairly certain this card is geographically inaccurate:

I can almost hear a tiny chorus of voices…“I’m melting…meeeeeeelting…oh, what a world…”…

Ryan Iverson is back with another Werner Herzog reading of a childhood classic.
I wish he could have gotten the real Herzog to narrate, but if you’re familiar with Herzog’s work, this reading is brilliantly done.
See others here.
-
I realize this photo implicates me as a Crazy Cat Lady (who is ironically cat-less since the feline inspiration here doesn’t technically belong to me).
Yes, I took the time out of my day to hand make this stocking…for a cat.
Rowsdower is not just ANY cat though. He was the timid runt of the litter who, in a few shorts months, became a bundle of enthusiasm, acrobatics, affectionate headbutts, odd noises and outrageous stunts. For reasons obvious upon meeting him, I’ve taken the liberty of nicknaming him “Cookie Party.”
I actually made a second stocking for another special cat in my life, but I might adjust part of the design so I’m not posting it.
Two cat stockings. Yet I maintain a startling degree of sanity. Go figure.

I love this concept from VISEone for Brooklyn’s Almighty Dunny Show.
I do enjoy a good anthropomorphic glob, now and then!
For those unfamiliar with Dunnys, they are smooth, white, curved rabbit-like creatures designed as a “blank canvas” toy to be customized. You can see some here.
-
I have some holiday themed images floating on my desktop right now, but lets have a look at some of the regular (if such a a word can be used in this case) first.
First, a new piece by Camille Rose Garcia, whom I’ve posted about here, here and here.

[Insert split personality joke for the following]

The perils of waiting too long…

I’m not sure if this is how the “birth” of ideas really works.

Artistically rendered territory of taste:

And for those who prefer to practice beauty techniques with their own hands…

This image is actually a giant sea monster projectile vomiting thousands of human bodies. Whoa, indeed.

We’ll finish off with some beautiful projectile vomit by TYPOE

-
“Cthulhu Christmas” felt like an appropriate title for an image odyssey…and I was not disappointed. Something about this creature of the deep seems to lend itself to holiday crafting and products.
Let’s start with a tree topper and ornament from Think Geek:

Another, found here.

Looks like this is a popular motif (I like this one’s attitude):

The Mr. and Mrs.:

A nifty card found here:

Another great card from 7 Deadly Sinners:

I love the sun catcher:

Cthulhu cthupcake!

This plush wreath is pretty well done:

There are so many images out there of ornaments, plushies, decorations and cards…if you’re into the Cthulhu thing, definitely poke around online this season.

I know it’s cruel to post a long-discontinued item in the heart of the year’s most hectic shopping period. My apologies to anyone who would immediately add Milky the Marvelous Milking Cow to their shopping or wish list.
Here we have a plastic cow that “drinks” water from a trough (meaning, you put its head down and it acts like a vacuum hose), which then mixes with imitation milk tablets housed in its stomach.
The luscious, giant cow lips and come-hither stare are unnerving. I feel…dirty.
And the final product is not exactly appetizing.
Purely from a collector standpoint, these must be rather valuable.
Watch the commercial, if you dare:
And if your thirst for retro toy horror has not been quenched, why not visit Baby Alive? Or the Baby Alive follow up post?

I just realized that I haven’t posted about The Science Tarot yet, despite the fact that I could barely contain my joy upon learning of them.
Science Tarot is a creative science communication project that combines science, art and mythology into a tarot deck to engage and awaken people’s curiosity about science and the natural world.
I can get positively lost in any ONE of those subjects for hours on end (until I once again realize I’ve just geeked away another afternoon or evening).I feel particularly lucky to enjoy this deck as someone who has already studied the tarot as an artistic representation of human archetypes for quite sometime. I will never cease to be fascinated by the symbols, images and systems we construct as we try to navigate and contextualize our experience on this planet.
Science may be rigid and precise, but let me remind you:
“Science without enchantment is nothing.”
–Richard AxelThe introduction of scientific anecdotes into an already awe-inspiring tome of human myth and artistic expression does not surface nearly enough, in my opinion. I can’t wait to see how this particular group of artists portrays these fascinating relationships.
I better not make any plans when my deck arrives in the mail.
