Adam Oehlers

Adam Oehlers has a wonderful collection of illustrations and sculpture. His characters are so distinct…so alive…

Here we have one image from a series of Cinderella Jumprope Rhymes. The rhyme for this one: “Cinderella dressed in Black, killed all the robots with her BLAST ATTACK!” (Where was this when I was a child?)

This fine fellow comes from a story inspired by a curiosity shop in Norwich (UK) that had a huge owl taking up residence in the back room.

And this cat is the villain of an upcoming graphic novel (while he does look rather mischeivous, I fear I love cats too much to hold it against him).

His sculptures are wonderful as well.

I had a dollhouse for a short time as a child, and I always wanted to “haunt” it. Something inspired me to do an image search for “haunted dollhouse” recently, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a number of crafters now specialize in spooky miniatures.

On a whim, I started a Pinterest board for them (I just began using the site, so please excuse the sparse posts and randomness).

Whoopitydooart had some of my favorite haunted dollhouse treats.

MONSTER CAKES for the table! How great are these?

The Invisible Man…perfect for the dollhouse study.

Thomas Kuebler

I’ve been meaning to post about Thomas Kuebler’s sculptures for a while now.

He uses what I can only call “grotesque realism” to make these eye catching, monstrous creations.

Kuebler states: “I want to tell wild stories in a single three-dimensional portrait and literally flesh out a biography with hair, clothing, trinkets, teeth and fingernails, etc.”

And he certainly does!

Maskull Lasserre: Incarnate

Maskull Lasserre carved a beautiful skull from obsolete computer manuals.

Sometimes I’m conflicted about book sculptures because I love printed literature…but outdated computer instruction is the perfect item for this type of work!

Dragon Dumpling

Although this looks rather like the dragon version of a naked mole rat, I was surprised to learn that it’s actually a dumpling.

Kaitrees on DeviantART has the most elaborate wire tree sculptures I’ve laid eyes on.

Some have lights…

I bet they all cast amazing shadows when arranged with proper lighting.

Face Off: Tim Burton

Face Off very effectively pits my love of horror makeup design against my aversion to reality TV (WHY can’t this be a regular documentary series? Fewer petty squabbles and more monsters, please!).

Contestants are given various cinematic makeup challenges. Recently they were asked to create something that looks “Tim Burton inspired.” I inadvertently caught about 10 seconds of this episode and figured I’d check out the results.

Here are some of the creations.

Since most of you reading this have probably seen a Burton film or two (*wink, wink*)…what do you think of these? The winner was pretty well done, but I’m also a fan of the bellhop character.

Troels Carlsen

I’ve seen scattered images from Troels Carlsen around the web and just managed to track down the name behind the work. I’m rather partial to his series of skeleton installations.

These skeletons are always emerging…breaking through…enjoying miniature moments of personal triumph. They are curious and worldly little things.
