Easter is high atop the list of holidays I don’t celebrate, but I do love the yearly reemergence of Cadbury Creme Eggs. This image comes from an online game Cadbury launched this season (it needs to me aimed at my mouth).
Lovely little bunnies from Ron English:

I spotted this rabbit on speed in a grocery store (note the oddly placed block of cheese next to him. Did he steal it in an amphetamine rampage?):

A bunch of bunnies by Frijol Boy:

Two by Nicoletta Ceccoli:

This is what you will dream after too much Easter candy:

Just a happy day in the garden…

Not sure I understand what they were going for with this military theme.

And here’s a bit of nostalgia…

I know I just did a desktop goodies post, but I didn’t even post a fraction of the images cluttering up my screen. Every few days I move them to the traveling museum that is my external hard drive, but they pile up fast for an info junkie like me.
Stunned Cactus Head Jesus invites you in…

Taxidermy just looks so classy when it’s well done.

This gives me an idea: misanthrope motivational posters!

Yes, I generally keep five or six of these in my room at any given time.

This sculpture is bloody brilliant:

Remember this, fellow 80’s children?

*Sigh* Yes, I’ve been hearing this from relatives since I was about 18:

(But in my case, 2011 has certainly tried so far!)Brings new meaning to the phrase “my better half:”

…and new meaning to “a meeting of minds:”

I should definitely do this with my hip-length hair. Now, how to craft a faucet accessory…

Best typo of the month…and top of my destination list if it’s true. Where do heavy meals line the urban roadsides? Bring me to the land of meatloaf trees and pizza flowers!

I’d also like to go to this coffee shop:

Best cake inscription of the month:

Happy birthday! “Rats off to you!” (You know this sickly looking thing has red velvet cake innards)

Or for another unique birthday idea (not recommended):

It’s been a while since I’ve posted some stunning sea creatures, so I bring you this amazing photo set by Alexander Semenov.

Mindazonaltal’s Flickr photostream is filled with gorgeous surreal vignettes.
As tempting as it is to fill this post with my own commentary, I think everyone should get a chance to form their own impressions and draw their own conclusions from work like this.

On any given day, I’m guilty of countless curiosity tangents. After seeing one word or image that strikes me, I’m liable to spend (too much) time in search of related images, information and anecdotes.
Today? VINTAGE STRONGMEN, inspired by these bandages seen on Swissmiss:
Outlets for the general fascination with physical strength shape-shift through generations, but the fascination itself appears to be a constant of the human experience.
Since images like the ones above are easy enough to search out (if you’re so inclined…which you’re probably not), I’m going to focus on a few of the things that surprised me in my strongman odyssey.
I came across many more dolls and toys than I expected. Particularly modern ones. There’s a strongman revival in the works, folks. Believe it.
Perhaps the toy trend comes from the recent hipster adoption and pop culture resurrection of the handlebar moustache.
They just kept popping up!
Inherently contradictory paper strongman:

There are a variety of vintage toys as well.
I really wonder what this old “Rover” LP sounds like:

For those who wanted to measure their own “strongmanity” (my adjective describing one’s degree of strongman attributes):

Lou has Muscles and Might (though surprisingly weak ankles):

Yearning to know more? Try a Composite Guide.

There were indeed comic representations too, but that’s a whole other story.

I’ll wrap it up here with a classic poster.

You’ll find the greatest wealth of images on Oldtime Strongman (I didn’t take images from the site for this post because I found the logos distracting to look at, but much effort clearly went into this site).
This post is dedicated to the mighty Buff Jenkins, who has helped me loosen many a jar lid. May your tankinis always be striped and well-fitted!

Kirsty Mitchell has a gift for creating elaborate photographs without the use of common digital manipulations. Here are a few from her Wonderland series.
How could I NOT love these book laden images?
Her vibrant landscapes are all natural locations she carefully scouts, and clothing/props are meticulously created (often hand dyed) to match. Clearly, intense preparation goes into every shot. The result: bursts of surreal, fairy tale scenery to complement the beauty of nature that surrounds.
The inspiration behind this series is complex and multifaceted, but it is partially a tribute to her mother who passed away a few years ago. I only wish I could memorialize my mother with such images.

Photographer Carl Kleiner has a wonderful series of images that display baking ingredients like we’ve never seen them before.
These geometric configurations were part of a campaign for IKEA.
The rest of the galleries on Kleiner’s site are also brimming with colorful creativity.
Check out his work here.
