Posted in Uncategorized with tags absurd, anthropomorphic, ephemera, vintage on January 1, 2015 by shewalkssoftlyHere is a small collection of vintage greetings to start your year off right.
Well, this is one way to face your demons.
The intoxicated moon has somehow procured a giant cigarette and is rather adept at blowing smoke rings.
There’s probably a story here. Broken glass and an angel making a move…
I completely agree with the look on the bird in short pants.
The source of this card had the perfect caption: “Hallmark, please start making these for a walk of shame card collection, thanks in advance.”
Oddly anthropomorphized bottles making out. One can almost hear the clinking of glass.
Be warned, if you pass out drunk a horse may eat your head while you sleep.
I don’t understand this moon, anatomically.
Ah, a beetle stares into space. Nothing says New Years like that!
Happy New Year
Posted in ephemera, photography, vintage with tags ephemera, photography, vintage on December 31, 2014 by shewalkssoftlyIt’s that time again! Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy! Actually, I’m ringing in the New Year in an odd bout of crippling migraines that has lasted a week, so I’m keeping this short.
This snowman’s face kind of looks like mine right now.
But may you be happier than a pig drinking champagne this evening!
Holiday Desktop Goodies 12/18

This image is just perfect: happy tan lady with happy man, angry pale lady, pale lady’s partner not-so-inconspicuously eying her sunkissed rival. Don’tyou want a sun lamp now?
Amazing relationship advice from the folks at Dormeyer: use tears to manipulate your husband into purchasing household items. Maybe if I fake a sense of victimhood I can score a toaster this Christmas.
A man who knows what he wants (even the big Kewpie is looking at him like “Seriously, dude?”):
And by “Merry” I mean “there are bodies in the basement:”
This drenched, freezing Yeti standing in a flood may be the most depressing card ever.
The pudding has broken out in fluid filled pustules.
And now for the piece de resitance (don’t gloss over this one. Take in every detail):

I forgot to clean out my “desktop goodies” folder and I may be repeating myself (though I don’t think so). Either way, these treasures are worth seeing.
I’ve seen fortune teller automata before, but never Puss in Boots. He sees straight into your soul. It burns.
Take a moment to really absorb and digest this book. This may be one of the most horribly absurd things I’ve seen, and that’s saying something.
I love this headstone. If I am interred, I hope I get a lot of reading done down there.
Famous monster candle making? Sign me up!
Need I comment on this? I think not.
Where’s the bumper sticker that says MY OTHER CAR IS A FLOWER COVERED CARRIAGE STEERED BY A GIANT DEER HEAD?

Antique Acquaintance Cards
Posted in antiques, ephemera, humor with tags antique, ephemera, humor on April 5, 2014 by shewalkssoftlyWhy did calling cards ever go out of fashion? Sure, we have hundreds of ways to bombard each other with introductions online (or in person…do people still meet that way?), but calling cards had style.
From The Art of Manliness (wow, what a great blog name!):
In the 19th century, gentlemen used calling cards to formally introduce themselves to new acquaintances and to call upon friends and relatives in a dignified way. But there was another type of card used when a gentleman wanted to get the ball rolling with a lovely lady in a more casual way: the acquaintance card.
The cards were designed as a comical way for a gentleman to break the ice, start a conversation, and flirt with the opposite sex. Sometimes the humor was overt, and sometimes it derived from the way the messages parodied the formal rules of etiquette — it wasn’t actually considered appropriate to ask for your calling card back or volunteer your escorting services so directly, as some of these cards do.
Now THIS man is willing to risk his gun, his dog and his shoes to be acquainted with a lady.
