  • Halloween Countdown: Halloween Wedding Cakes

    October 23rd, 2011

I think I’ve actually posted this cake before, but it’s pretty neat:

    Gorgeous!

    Source

    Classy:

Now, this one is pretty cool due to its insane attention to detail and expert construction…

…but honestly, ENOUGH with the Nightmare Before Christmas cakes. I gushed over the first few I saw many years ago, but now there are thousands. Love the movie. Love the aesthetics. But I suppose I’m craving some new themes in Halloween cake territory.

I’d actually like to see a cake covered in black fondant with classy white piping (perhaps a “Memento Mori” theme…winged skulls and such) with red velvet inside.

There are a ton of zombie, skeleton and other assorted undead cake toppers out there, but check THESE out!

  • Halloween Countdown: Halloween Wedding Decor Part 1

    October 22nd, 2011

Last year, Halloween fell on a Saturday. Why didn’t everyone on earth with even the slightest inclination to wed rush to the altar? (Oh, because not everyone adores Halloween like I do…I forgot).

I was expecting a proliferation of spooky wedding decorations from 2010 to come up in an image search, but didn’t find as many as I expected. So here are a few nice table setups:

    Ooh…

And on a related note, dark roses and calla lilies…simple and lovely!

    Tomorrow…cakes.

See my previous post on Halloween Wedding Cakes.

  • Halloween Countdown: Jimmy Pickering

    October 21st, 2011

I’ve posted about Jimmy Pickering here before. And now, a few new sweet ‘n sinister goodies.

Sometimes there can be a lot of character in simple little creatures…

    Love these food creatures…

  • Halloween Countdown: Jack O Lantern Roundup

    October 20th, 2011

Just a few that caught my eye this year…

    Elegant…

    Cute…

    Seriously amazing…

    Great concept…

    Wow…

This almost looks fake, but I don’t really care.

  • Halloween Countdown: John Zacherley- Coolest Little Monster

    October 19th, 2011

When John Zacherley’s “Coolest Little Monster” came on in a streaming Halloween mix, I stopped everything…chuckling and marveling at the sweet greatness of this song.

Zacherley sings to his beloved little monster about all the delightful gifts he’ll bring her to show his love.

I couldn’t find a youtube video, but I did find it on the wonderful WMFU’s Beware of the Blog.

The lyrics haven’t been transcribed, as far as I can find anyway, but who can resist lines like

I’ll send a lipstick of arsenic
    One urn of sunburn
    Six cups of hiccups
    A binful of sinful
‘Cause you’re the coolest little monster
That ever put the spook on me

Download “Coolest Little Monster and three other songs!

Go ahead…send this little ditty to the one you love this season.

I actually posted about Zacherley before, with his presidential campaign (and yet another spelling of his name, which makes three that I’ve seen so far).

Check out Monster Mash/Scary Tales and Spook Along With Zacherley for more tunes.

  • Halloween Countdown: Wicked Crochet Brain Doily

    October 18th, 2011

Wow…this is one classy decoration I would love to have on my tables right now. This lovely doily was made by Wicked Crochet:

If anyone has links to other great Halloween crafts, I’d love to see them.

  • Halloween Countdown: Misc. Treat Bag

    October 17th, 2011

I don’t have sources for all of these, but here are some Halloween goodies that have been popping up on the Web lately.

    Sweet…

I believe I got these two from The Last Goddess:

One day I’m going to do some window silhouettes for the Halloween season…

I’d like to see what the “tricks” are. I’ve used A LOT of black thread in my day.

This actually wasn’t made for Halloween, but…what’s with the demon snake eyes? I find this more terrifying than most horror illustrations.

And now from the simple-but-neat “why didn’t I think of that file:”

    I very much want this…

This, on the other hand, is not AS appealing:

A couple of fine ways to travel if you’re dead:

A little unrelated but was this…a thing?

    Amazing autumn maple…

Awesome idea for innovative pumpkin decoration…the junk-o-lantern!

I’m sure there are more “treat bag” posts on the way. Image suggestions are welcome!

  • Halloween Countdown: Hostess with the Mostess

    October 16th, 2011

Ready for some great spooky tableaux? Check out the whole Halloween tag on Hostess with the Mostess.

There are lots of different themes: Victorian, vampire, harvest…from cute to classy and everything in between.

A number of posts also contain free printables and tutorials.

Each scene creates a real atmosphere, beautifully coordinated.

See more great party ideas here.

  • Halloween Countdown: Laurie Lipton at Last Rites NYC

    October 15th, 2011

While not a Halloween exhibit per se, I feel this is completely appropriate for a Halloween countdown. Laurie Litpon’s new show at Last Rites is gorgeous, of course.

Lipton’s outrageously detailed pencil drawings are a phenomenal sight…especially in person. If you can possibly make it to this show, I highly recommend it.

    See the show online here.

  • Halloween Countdown: Fabric Roundup

    October 14th, 2011

I’ve been away from my sewing machine for a while now due to other projects, but I still catch myself lusting after fabrics occasionally. Here are a few Halloween samples I stumbled upon this season.

    From Fat Quarter Shop:

    Kitties Galore!

    Retro Style!

This one is actually from Etsy but is listed as Fat Quarter:

From the Alexander Henry Ghastlies Collection:

    Absolutely LOVE these cats:

I’m sure I’ll find more that I’ll wish I posted, but I must end my search for now. The vast majority of Halloween fabric tends to be very bright and cutesy (which I’m not opposed to in very select cases, but it gets a bit boring). If anyone has seen some truly unique Halloween textiles, let me know.
