I couldn’t find a personal website for Sasha Petrov, but I’d like to show a few porcelain doll sculptures.
Delicate, spindly, graceful, haunting and mysterious creatures…

BilbliOdyssey recently featured a rather unique children’s book in which a rocket blasts through each scene.
You can actually see and hear the story in a video book on Youtube.
I try to be an informed, responsible citizen and pay attention to the news. However, while browsing for important content that is somehow relevant to the state of the human condition, I came across something that The Internets deem quite newsworthy: Justin Bieber’s new Jesus tattoo.
So I figured there must be tons of awful Jesus tattoos out there. My search did not disappoint.
People of all religions or lack thereof…let us unite in our common faith in human beings…to make bad decisions.
Is this Jesus, Will Ferrell, or some kind of hybrid Ferrell Christ?
I don’t know what to say about this, other than “that’s a shame for everyone involved:”

It looks like Jesus wears his sunglasses at night…

Just put the eyes *somewhere* on the face. Anywhere will do.

Easy, breezy, beautiful Cover Christ (Jesus is wearing Cover Girl smudge proof mascara, in “Film Noir”):

I’m speechless…I’m…sorry…I’m…uncomfortable and confused.

Poor Jesus looks so disgusted to be on this man’s head that he’s downright ill. I don’t blame him.

Ready for a different twist? Jesus WITH a tattoo! Don’t like it? Tell it to his acid wash jeans!

Sadly, this post will probably get more hits (and disappointed viewers) than anything I’ve posted in years because it contains the words “Justin Bieber.”
Since wordpress sends me a yearly blog status report, I’ve decided to do something special each year for the person who comments most frequently. It shall be known as the SheWalksSoftly Major Award.
This year, the award goes to the author of my favorite creature blog, Real Monstrosities. Congratulations, JJG!
The winner of the Major Award will receive a special handmade (by me) project, custom crafted to suit his or her own interests. I take requests.
I truly appreciate anyone who takes a moment to comment, share the site, send feedback or make posting suggestions. When I began this blog, it was merely an outlet for my own vastly varied odd fascinations. I’ve had a blast doing it, and I’m so glad that others have gotten something out of it as well.
Who will be the next Major Award winner? Get those comments in! 😉
This gorgeous sculpture by David Kravoc was commissioned as an award for Rabbi Yossi Raichik, director of Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl.
The piece represents The Book of Life, and pages are filled with the words of those touched by Raichik’s kindness. What a lovely idea for a memorial, and very well executed.
I may not make it to Manitoba for the sole purpose of seeing this smiling monument, but I’d really love to drive by such a thing.
Meet the Gladstone Happy Rock (“Gladstone”…get it? get it? *nudge nudge*). 15 feet tall and full of joy…

One of my favorite things about traveling is encountering local treasures such as this.
What a beautiful installation by Paul Cocksedge:
200 sheets of electrically conducive material, each hand sculpted, appear to flutter through the air as if freed by a giant gust of wind.
This installation was constructed in the courtyard of a Lyon hotel for the annual Fête des Lumières (festival of lights).
See more photos and read more info at the source.
Oh boy…one of these years I’m going to hop on board for a Crafty Chica Cruise. This looks like so much fun!
Art swaps, workshops (all supplies included), demos, prizes, a 24 hour craft room…along with the regular culinary and scenic delights of a cruise. I’ll be smack in the middle of my spring semester, buried in Integrative Medicine so I have no hope of attending, but it seems fantastic.
See more info here (and if anyone goes, please tell me how it is!).
Happy 2012, folks!
I enjoyed this vintage glimpse of New Years past as the clock wound down last night.
Followed by the smooooooth sounds of Trololo:
Here’s a nice little 2012 collage by Marko Purac:

The companion piece actually reminds me a bit more of my feelings about 2011:

Here’s another that’s been circulating, by Trevor Brown:

And this is one of my all time favorite New Years cards (date unknown). Judging from the picture, “the pace that kills” is probably about 15 miles per hour.

WordPress sent me a note chronicling my top 5 most popular posts of 2011. I was kind of hoping I could find my top 5 LEAST popular ones and list them here for the fun of it…but there’s no easy way to access that. So, in case you missed them, the “top 5” (not necessarily written in the past year) are:
Pumpkin Megapost
Ernst Haeckel
Halloween Wedding Cakes
Owl Tattoos
Sushi Cake
Hope everyone has a lovely day today…
Apparently, it was tradition for Russian New Years cards to incorporate some Christmas themes.

What is it time to do, folks? So mysterious…

I love this hair. It reminds me of a cat.

I’m sure this story makes sense…somehow.

Love the combo of memento mori symbolism with the cherubic little creature holding them…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
