  • World’s Greatest Dad

    June 16th, 2013

Can’t type much, but I must take this Father’s Day opportunity to honor the World’s Greatest Dad (“That’s better than #1!”).

Dad, you have always been, and still remain my greatest inspiration and my true hero. I love you more than anything. THANK YOU…for everything you’ve done, for everything you do…for being you.

  • Retro Horror Art: Wandering Women in Nightgowns

    June 15th, 2013

If one browses a great deal of retro horror art (as I do), one is bound to stumble upon this common theme: wandering women in nightgowns.

    b5dc6d6c59fb929e3b21ef8e2d677b27

Apparently, many stories exist in which women find compelling reasons to roam the landscape wearing only their lustrous, flowing bedclothes.

    So forlorn, uncertain…

  • Harley Quinn Retro Style Apron

    June 14th, 2013

I’ve posted about handmade retro aprons and movie monster aprons before. Now here’s one for you sexy comic geeks.

    Harley Quinn Apron:

I’ve got the long blonde hair…I think I could pull off a convincing Ms. Quinn at the stove. However, I personally would be be hesitant to cook in something handmade and pricey.

If you’re not into comics, you could opt for the mildly unsettling Pee Wee Herman style:

  • LympheDIVAs

    June 13th, 2013

LympheDIVAs is a product line close to my heart. I would have loved to treat my mom to one of these fantastic medical garments when her cancer resulted in lymphedema.

    CrabNebula_Gauntlet1

I adore the idea of adding a little flare to medical necessities, of “taking back” an illness by utterly ROCKING physical change. I am now marked by scars from the unfortunate health incidents that have befallen me…and I hope to recover enough to rejoin the world and wear those scars proudly.

There are some great designs for sleeves and gauntlets…

  • Balance Bookshelf

    June 12th, 2013

What the Balance Bookshelf lacks in practicality, it makes up for in concept.

    il_570xN.467171320_4t47

I recently went through a period of years in which I read no fiction whatsoever. I had decided to change my entire path from working in the publishing industry to going for a PhD in psychophysiology and making a new life in the realm of mind-body medicine (my true passion). I positively binged on medical and theoretical texts…and loved every second. Only this year, after being rendered an immobile lump of useless human parts by intractable pain, did I re-embrace my first true love: literature.

  • Indigo Ocean’s Taxidermy Foal

    June 11th, 2013

Like bacon, cupcakes, ninjas and zombies, unicorns seem to have taken off in popular culture. Most artistic renderings of these horned beasts of the equine persuasion tend to be somewhat similar.

Indigo Ocean on deviantART takes another angle and creates “realistic” baby versions.

While I never got into the unicorn craze, something about these mini faux-foals is kind of captivating.

  • Mystery Organ Installation

    June 10th, 2013

The Internet is a glorious tool, but some sites (I’m talking to you again, Tumblr and Pinterest) spread amazing images like the proverbial wildfire…without credit.

A Google image search on this still failed to turn up a creator, but I think it’s rather wonderful.

Does anyone know who made this?

  • Scott Musgrove: Walktopus

    June 8th, 2013

I’ve been a fan of Scott Musgrove for many years, but admittedly have paid more attention to his artwork than sculpture.

His latest piece, Walktopus, is a treat for those with a penchant for cephalopods. This fellow is my height (well, I can boast being an inch or two taller since I tower over the masses at a gargantuan 5’1″-5’2″).

    And the 20″ version:

What a great candle holder for a quirky library like mine…
