Tallying $67,000, modern mummification isn’t for everyone…but it’s Available at SUMMUM.

These guys have resurrected (no pun intended) the ancient Egyptian art. You can see a description of the process here.

If you prefer something smaller in size and significantly more sparkly, there is LifeGem.

Love. Life’s single greatest risk. Life’s single greatest reward. Love captures your heart in a second and holds it for eternity. You have experienced a love without equal.

You have had someone truly special in your life and mere words simply will not do.

Your very own LifeGem diamond(s) can be created from the carbon in cremation ashes, a lock of hair, or both. Of course, not only do we turn ashes into diamonds and hair into diamonds, we also have a full line of cremation jewelry, rings, and pendants to accent your beautiful LifeGem cremation diamond.

Or if you’d like your death to involve a space odyssey, you can be shot into the cosmos.

Missions into space that return the cremated remains to Earth are also available. Calisto Jewelry

Posted in craft, jewelry with tags , on February 23, 2015 by shewalkssoftly

Calisto Jewelry has a touching little story behind it, told by the daughter of the creator.

il_570xN.729321914_q8yy

About a year ago, my father (45) came to me and showed me a piece of jewelry he made out of scrap metal. The jewelry junkie inside me felt like my world had just turned upside down.

il_570xN.730988391_h9y5

I was full of surprise, admiration and love for my father who just lost his job but still remained a creative person that never stopped using his hands to bring some beauty and magic to the world.

From that day on we’ve been designing different types of pendants, earrings and bracelets, all inspired by mythology, ancient cultures, Indian tribes, Celtic symbols, etc. My father is a real modern polymath: he draws beautifully with both hands, carves sculptures out of wood, used to be a tattoo artist for a while and now, he makes beautiful jewelry.

There are some really stunning pieces in his collection, all of which are one of a kind (never duplicated), and he takes requests!

Alien Facehugger Brooch

Alien fans, drop everything and look at this Facehugger Brooch!

tumblr_nd5tje9NHC1qzfsnio2_500

Yes, the silver craftsmanship is wonderful, but check out the center! An actual Chestburster waiting to squirm its way into someone’s unsuspecting guts.

I can’t get over how well done this creature is. I wish these were for sale. I would love that resin center piece by itself, but using it as an anatomically correct Alien takes it to a whole other level.

Martha Rotten

I’ve just been browsing Martha Rotten’s Etsy store, and I came across some interesting jewelry bits.

My favorites (which I hope to add to my collection one day) are the clock hand earrings and necklace.

There are many variations of bone, straight, curved and otherwise.

And the occasional Confessional Cuff.

Mer-babies are a rather underrepresented part of the Mer-kingdom…at least in jewelry.

Naomi Kizhner: Energy Addicts

Posted in design, jewelry, macabre with tags , , on September 17, 2014 by shewalkssoftly

Naomi Kizhner has designed a parasitic series of jewelry. These creatures of metal and glass (in theory) feed off the energy of those who wear them via pincers that reach through the body into the spine where they draw upon electrical nerve conductivity.

The line will not be going into actual production (I’d say this is fairly obvious, but one never knows in this society. Most of us already encounter plenty of welcome parasitism from mass produced objects).

Afterlife Artwork

Afterlife Artwork sells unique CRUELTY FREE (the artist is very clear that no animals are harmed for the making of any of these pieces) anatomical jewelry, featuring bits and bones of many varieties.

The rattlesnake skeletons look great:

Knowing that these creatures were already deceased is important to me (I get very upset when animals suffer for art of any kind). In this case, these displays become loving tributes to the gorgeous inner workings of our fellow critters. She is making use of that which would otherwise be discarded or rot, showcasing these miraculous tiny bits of nature.

The Lysine Contingency

Posted in anatomy, craft, jewelry with tags , , on July 18, 2014 by shewalkssoftly

I was quite taken aback when I saw The Lysine Contingency, because I have, in fact, crafted almost every single one of these jewelry designs (right down to the settings and chains) on my own in previous years! Great minds!

il_570xN.506552383_fhmm

All of their designs are just my style. I think I’d wear absolutely everything in their catalog.

Dinosaurs! I’d forgotten all about dinosaurs in my own hobby creations!

Delftia

Not long ago, I had a dream that I was crafting a sacred geometry shape out of silver wire in my (hopefully soon to actually exist) metalwork area at home. This led me to a search a few things and stumble upon Delftia .

My favorite piece in the collection:

Here’s one I’ve yet to see anywhere else (though I can’t say I’ve searched much hypercube jewelry).

Great jewelry for science geeks in this Etsy shop.

The Faerie Market: Moth Clip

Posted in body decoration, craft, creatures, jewelry, nature with tags , , , , on February 8, 2014 by shewalkssoftly

Sometimes “there’s a bug in your hair!” isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

While pricey, I admire the craftsmanship on this Emperor Gum Moth Hair Clip.

il_570xN.461956742_para

I have a bizarre habit of considering accessories according to what unusual museum exhibit I’d hypothetically be likely to wear them to…plenty of entomological displays came to mind for this one.

Would you wear pretty bugs, birds and beasts in your hair?

See other nature inspired creations here.
