Gary, the Chocolate Addicted Fish

There’s so much I love about this…I don’t even know where to begin. This fish, hilariously named “Gary,” was so addicted to Kit Kat bars that he outgrew his tank.

Aquarium staff were baffled when the 8.8lb giant gourami called Gary rejected normal food after being donated to them.

Then the previous owners of the exotic Asian freshwater fish admitted feeding it only with the chocolate-covered wafers.

Experts at the Sea Life London Aquarium had to put crushed Kit Kat pieces inside grapes and banana slices to tempt the 15.7in-long fish on to a normal diet.

Oh Gary…I understand, buddy. My loved ones have tried those techniques to wean me off chocolate too.

  1. Hahahah! This is great! I think more of the world’s animal life should be introduced to the delights of chocolate. It’s not fair that we keep it all to ourselves.

    • I completely agree, though I believe we are in the minority here. I took to feeding cookies, just in tiny bits, to a cat that is very dear to me and he adored them (cats don’t have sweet receptors on their tongues, so I took this as a sign that he’s very highly evolved). His nickname became “Cookie Party.”

I also used to have a hamster who was WILD about cheese danishes.

  2. I can’t believe anyone even thought of feeding their fish kit kat bars! This story is insane. I wonder how the poor thing didn’t suffer from malnutrition from just eating kit kats while it was with it’s previous owners! To think that it exploded in size from the diet blows my mind. You think just eating candy would stunt it!! hah hah.. I struggle to keep my 14″ oscar fish nutritionally balanced! The struggle comes from extreme pickiness. I haven’t tried Kit kats ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the story… lol. As a fish enthusiast, it certainly brightened my morning!

    • In fairness, although I support giving treats to pets…I also advocate nutritionally balanced diets that keep them them in good health. ๐Ÿ™‚
