I am not a photographer. I don’t even know how to use Photoshop. I’m just a snapshot taker who loves to capture an eyeful of something interesting.
My father and I stopped at the Hollywood Forever cemetery early this morning. They had some of the most impressive mausoleums I’ve seen in modern cemeteries.
The feeling floats somewhere between classic memorials and sci-fi dystopian burial cities.
And this is for my fellow punk rock fans:

I first saw the work of David Sykes start to pop up on various blogs that feature anatomical/macabre art, due to his recent skull pops:
Upon checking his portfolio, I found it was a treasure trove of finely captured kitsch.
Innovative presentation…
Not to mention food textures, up close and personal.
However, my favorites are his slightly skewed domestic scenes, complete with subtle anatomical model decoration. And meat. Meat in unlikely places.
This table pulls off a subtle grotesqueness that fascinates me:

When I was a child, I used to build elaborate forts and tents in my house. I’d use anything; furniture, boxes, blankets, household objects, intricate string setups for hanging cloth. Then those beloved ephemeral worlds would be destroyed.
Here’s a favorite indoor camping photo (sadly, not my own). I can’t tell what I love more: the library itself, the setup, or the particular combination of the two.
Over the last few years, I’ve had an odd urge to “camp out” in the large open space of my window-filled living room during a thunderstorm.

I cannot stop watching this animated gif, created by satellite photography approaching Jupiter (if it’s not moving, it’s not working…please let me know).
This gaseous giant looks like a machine, twisting and turning (bidirectionally!) as if moved by a series of gears.
Photographer Mark Mawson has a phenomenal series of images called Aqueous, created by dropping paint into water.
The colors swirl, blend and come to life…as if one were viewing deep sea creatures in motion.
I’m also a fan of his “drowning” photographs.

I could look at space photography all day. I haven’t studied astronomy in quite as much depth as my other geeky fascinations, but cosmic eye candy is one of my favorite things.
Colour Lovers recently posted a delicious series of photos.
It’s hard to believe that these images are even real, and these phenomena actually exist in nature at this very moment.

Christoph Morlinghaus has a lovely minimalist website that lets his photography speak for itself. I am particularly fond of his empty church photographs.
These images beautifully highlight the complexity of architectural design that went into some of these structures.
Although I don’t personally attend any kind of church, I admire the form…the geometry…the vehicles of worship that human beings create.
There is something majestic and grand (one might even say a certain sci-fi quality) in the aura of these photos.

Sometimes nature puts photoshop to shame with its beautiful formations. Mark Shandro’s flickr photos feature an incredible iceberg that anyone nowadays would mistake for a digital manipulation.
The photo was taken at Los Glaciares National Park and rises about 12 feet above water.

I just came across this blog that collects stunning photographs of industrial decay.
I could stare at these for hours, marveling at the way nature creeps in and makes its mark on even the most shiny and innovative human inventions.
Many of these photos have intriguing subject matter and beautiful composition.
This one makes me swoon…
