  • Blanka Dvorak

    July 31st, 2011

Blanka Dvorak’s work will appeal to those of you who don’t mind your art a little on the tense and macabre side.

Dvorak does a wonderful job creating a grotesque sense of uneasiness, disgust, fear, sadness…

These works tap into the darker side of something primal.

  • Too Small to Fail

    July 30th, 2011

Aesthetic Apparatus calls this the “slightly empowering T-shirt:”

While I find that description hilarious, I’d feel hugely empowered in this shirt. I’m a bit under 5’2″ and I weigh as much as a ten year old boy…I want this to be my TINY DYNAMO uniform. It’s going on the wish list…

  • Mizukagami Water Mirrors

    July 29th, 2011

I’ve seen countless decorative mirrors, but very few do creative things with the design of the mirror surface itself.

Would you want one of these in your house? I rather like the illusion.

A few more photos and a tiny bit of info at the source.

  • Stephane Halleux

    July 28th, 2011

Stephane Halleux’s sculptures feel like retrofuturistic illustrations come to life.

I know these will be a hit with the steampunk crowd (I may have mentioned some of my conflicting feelings about that term before, so it’s not one I use often).

The oddly proportioned vehicles and chairs are splendid…

  • The 1900 Letter

    July 27th, 2011

There is not a single design by The 1900 Letter that I don’t want to order.

Dark, classy, Victorian style hand crafted stationary items…with just the right amount of osteological, entomological and zoological flair.

    Items are custom monogrammed.

I bet The 1900 Letter could make some incredible invitations for autumn or winter weddings (I realize statements like this pretty much ensure that I will grow old alone in the company of cats, but still…).

    See the collection here.

  • The Knitting Knit Octopus

    July 26th, 2011

I love this knitting octopus on Max’s World.

Brilliant idea for a crafty creature! Here are a couple “work in progress” shots:

The final product came out great. Fantastic intensity in his little eyes as he works!

  • Kat Powell

    July 25th, 2011

Nothing like a good dose of fetal skeleton artwork. There is much to be found on Kat Powell’s site.

She comes up with some interesting little scenarios. I find them rather adorable.

  • Dellamorte & Co.

    July 24th, 2011

Dellamorte & Co. was recommended to me by a very kind reader.

Conjuring an archaic aesthetic and a sense of dark allure, Dellamorte & Co. draws inspiration from catacombs and tombs, mysticism and the realm of esoteric lore.

These items are hand sculpted, cast and painted with fantastic detail. It’s a high end, classy touch of darkness for the home.

Check out these candlesticks and bottle stoppers:

    Tentacles!

    Bones…with a twist…

Hand of Glory (if you don’t know the legend behind these, it’s rather interesting):

Earlier this year I actually did a search for “tombstone magnets” and these are better than anything I found.

  • Physiological Find a Word

    July 23rd, 2011

I have no idea where I saved this from, when it was printed, or what the source may have been.

    But give it a try…

My result: Bail Maniac Suicides. I am going into a healing profession, so this makes a perverse kind of sense, eh?

  • Beat Black

    July 22nd, 2011

Oh, we know I can’t resist a good piece of brain jewelry. Here are a couple from Beat Black.

    A friendship necklace:

    And for your classy ensembles…

    There is some goth fare:
