  • Emily Bawn Zombie Invitations

    September 11th, 2011

Emily Bawn does a killer (pun intended) job on this zombie bridal shower invitation:

Look at the classy yet spunky macabre detail! Emily says: “I wanted to have the feeling of formal grace at a first glance, but then upon closer inspection a transformation from elegance to the grotesque with the details of body parts and the macabre.”

Even though this was done for a bridal shower, zombie invitations are surely great for all kinds of non-wedding related events.

    Check out the happy couple:

  • Evan Campbell

    September 10th, 2011

This sculpture by Evan Campbell has been making the blog rounds lately, but it’s too disturbingly amazing to pass up re-posting here.

Campbell is an extremely talented sculptor of gruesome oddities whose work has been featured in the movies of Martin Scorsese, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Mann and Kevin Smith.

    See more here.

  • Hush Pod

    September 10th, 2011

This chair by Freya Sewell looks very inviting to me.

It’s another piece of introvert furniture (for those who don’t want the Sensory Deprivation Skull). Perfect for curling up and reading A Guide for the Extra Woman

  • Wendy Cogan Toyoda

    September 8th, 2011

Here are a few nice illustrations by Wendy Cogan Toyota.

Shining bits of beauty fall prey to bizarre infestations…

Great bouquet idea for Halloween parties:

  • The Inner Cat

    September 7th, 2011

This post goes out to the Father of My Kitties (okay, so the cats are not technically mine, they live in a different house, and I have completely insinuated myself as the Kitty Momma…what of it?).

I bolster the hell out of cat self-esteem on a regular basis. Our boy was the runt of the litter, and now he’s the Alpha Cat of the house. And our girl doesn’t even care that her ass always looks fat in photos. Job well done.

  • Dan McCarthy: Wish You Were Here

    September 6th, 2011

This new Dan McCarthy print gets me even more sentimental than Lisa Swerling’s “Evergreen.”

This is how the poster appears in the light…

And this image glows in the dark…

Some may find it morbid, but I think it’s very beautiful. I’d even file it under “Great Alternative Wedding Invitation/Proposal Ideas.” Once again, blame the successful love stories in my own family for my lapses in cynicism.

I can’t quite justify buying a $40 print right now, but I’m throwing on my wish list just to remember it exists.

  • Filigree Bat Jewelry

    September 5th, 2011

Browsing Creatures from El inspired me to see if anyone was selling filigree bat jewelry on Etsy. Not filigree backings with bats attached…but intricately carved wing designs.

The incredible Fable and Fury did not disappoint! This is getting me in the Halloween spirit (not that I don’t enjoy bats all year round).

It also comes in silver (I believe I saw red as well)…

The black one is going on my wish list.

This Antique Bat Necklace also turned up…love this one too.

I couldn’t find much information about these paper cut and colored sculptured from Nate Page.

  • Coloron Pro Instant Eyeshadow

    September 3rd, 2011

I probably should have picked up some eyeshadow skills over the years (or at least had them seep into me by osmosis at the goth/industrial/punk/metal shows I went to when I was younger). But I rarely use the stuff and I’m clueless about it.

Coloron Pro Instant Eyeshadow takes the work out of it with these stick on eyeshadow ovals.

They come in regular colors, but I think the patterns are more worth the cost. I’d love to try one of these for a Halloween party or special event.

Something about this idea reminded me of Homer Simpson’s makeup gun (Coloron has a sure advantage in precision).

  • Silly Symphony: Hell’s Bells

    September 2nd, 2011

Halloween is still two months away, but why not start getting into the spirit now?

I’ve posted about my love for The Skeleton Dance, now here is another Silly Symphony cartoon in a similar style.

The demons in this film and skeletons from The Skeleton Dance actually share some of their sweet dance moves.

This video has not entirely convinced me that hell is an unpleasant place to be. It actually seems like a grand ol’ time for the most part.
