This is technically an autumn item, but I’m posting it as the Northeast US starts to swelter with summer heat because it’s too good to wait.
I present: “Vegetable Harvest Creature.”
Made of early celluloid plastic from the Viscoloid company, this super rare fellow is…wait for it…
…TWO FACED! Yes, he can be happy or sad, tragic or comic (well, he’s always both of those no matter which face is forward).
The price tag is steep, but for serious celluloid collectors, this…exists.
You realize what happened here: this bird was killed, only to be zoomorphized into a bastardized version of itself in a stupid hat. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I’m completely entranced by this piece, yet can’t find an artist credit anywhere. Ideas? If no one knows…it’s obviously an alien cell phone.

I almost cropped out the caption because it’s so clear that this thing originated from a very unholy place that it just seems redundant.

I searched, in gleeful hope, for a vintage TV commercial featuring Drippy the Runny Nose Kid. But alas, no record of one exists. Sorry I couldn’t deliver this thing in action (or maybe I should be saying “you’re welcome”).

The idea was the educate the masses about vitamin deficiencies and nutritional imbalances. Wasn’t there a pamphlet they could hand out?
While tempting to generate my own sarcastic commentary for each of these, I think it’s only fair to direct you to the source, where the curator has taken a good deal of time to display and write commentary for the entire series (featuring gems such gems as “This looks like some self-proclaimed sex expert circa 1951.”)
I actually went through the whole series and was repeatedly stunned by these creations. Who wants one on the food table at my next party?

I came across a post about Aloca’s Book of Decorations (1959, Aluminum Company of America and Artists and Writers Press, Inc.). The star of the show, in this case, is tin foil.
While some may argue these designs are “cute,” I find they fall into that semi-unsettling-for-inarticulate-reasons category that always strikes my fancy.
Foil head coverings are a bit of a stretch.
The camel in the back is pretty cool. He’s just standing there marveling at the freaks next to him.
Not really a majestic mythical beast…but it’s…shiny and crinkly?
