Check out the massive group show Bewitching III at Albuquerque’s Stranger Factory gallery.
Stranger Factory art space is proud to present the 3rd year anniversary of our annual Halloween show. Bewitching III the third of an annual invitational group exhibition of new works in the theme and culture of vintage Halloween. The show will feature over 2 dozen local, national, and internationally recognized visual artists and designers.
Artists are invited to find inspiration in the history of Halloween, including costuming and merchandise from a past long gone to the symbolism and icons of this fantastic hallowed holiday – black cats to witches, to the walking dead and pumpkin kings…
Anyone from the area who got to go in person?

Many of us are no doubt aware of the fantastical Victorian taxidermy vignettes of Walter Potter, even if his name is not on our tongues. His Museum of Curiosities closed nearly four decades ago, and the collection was sold off in recent years. “Mr Potter started his collection at the age of 19 when his canary died and he dissected the bird before stuffing it for display in the family summer house. His family kept his museum in Bramber, Sussex open after his death in 1918.”
The link to an article on the “recreation” of Potter’s museum for a limited exhibit has some wonderful images. We hope the ones below will whet your interest.

I had to share this pun-tastic idea for a group are show.
Toy Art Gallery is proud to present Scott Tolleson’s DEADBEET Custom Group Show! The Deadbeet is 6” of soft vinyl veggie mischief, and we’ve invited 50 of the toy scene’s brightest and best toy artists customizers to tame this ragged root.
If anyone makes it to this, let me know how it is!

Dana found us one that I find especially fun today. This young artist debuted this particular display at Monsterpalooza, a Hollywood SFX and Monster expo, this past weekend. His VooDoo Witch Doctor is a fun tip of the pith helmet to Disney and the adventure serials of the 1930’s. And check out that 7 foot tall Shock Monster and Frankenstein Monster he did as well. I want this in my Tiki room!

I’d just like to see her TRY to pick up her dolly. Hours of fun (for the parents!)

Today I give you the Van Eaton Galleries Mad Monster Party Group Show. I wish I could see this one on person!
See the rest here.
How I wish I could visit the Science Museum of London to see these incredible wax anatomical figures, originally created circa 1810-1830.
Thank you, Street Anatomy for pointing me toward Beth Cavener Stitcher’s Four Humors sculpture series. I had admired her work in the past, but was rather intrigued by these representations of Hippocratic medicine.
Sanguine – Too much blood – passionate, bold, impulsive

Choleric – Too much yellow bile – irritable, hostile, bitter

Melancholic – Too much black bile – depressed, anxious, moody

Phlegmatic – Too much phlegm – passive, introverted, rational

This must have been a powerful exhibit to see in person.

Last month, I gathered a “Death and the Maiden” image collection on my hard drive, figuring I would do some sort of theme week with it here. But like things tend to do for obsessive image collectors, it kind of got lost in the shuffle.
Roq La Rue Gallery has one upped me with this nicely curated collection in their current Death and the Maiden group show. Here are some previews:
Seattle folks (if you’re out there), let me know how the show is in person if you attend!
