Oooh, this is fun! Francois Robert created bone letters for a project. The full alphabet is found at this Source . Below I spelled out the name of SWS’s absentee hostess. Giving me letters and fonts is a dangerous time sucker!

McQueen created his own ‘museum of woman-monsters’ in his second couture collection for Givenchy, Eclect Dissect, shown in July 1997. In the period leading up to to the show, his art director Simon Costin combined the late Victorian costumes McQueen was then looking at with with a series of animated skeletons and muscle men from the sixteenth-century anatomical plates of Andreas Vesalius in a series of collages.

Dana is recovering from emergency surgery a couple of nights ago. All I know is that it was unexpected (hence the emergency) and that they managed to clear out some scar tissue that was present from her March 5th, 2013 surgery.
Dana has managed a few brief texts in the past several hours, but was MIA for 24 hours after saying she was in the ER. I’ll leave details up to Dana to speak about in the future, or will let you all know sooner when she is well enough to convey more. Dana is blessed for the support and love of us all, and I thank you for the positive energy to give this well needed boost to Dana. This girl has such will, strength, and… guts!

Paolo Petrangeli “works and lives in Rome. In his painting there is the childhood’s innocence with all the bitterness of the adult age.”

These wonderful vintage trade advertisements offer more than the reality, no doubt, but are all the better for it.

Daniel Martin Diaz: Soul of Science is a series that speaks to me on such a personal level, as I am always steeped in some swirling combination of art, science, consciousness and philosophical musings…
In the artist’s own words:
In the fall, I became immersed in scientific and philosophical theories. In particular, I was obsessed with scientific diagrams, which explain theories and properties through drawings. My interests also included subjects such as self-aware systems, philosophy, cellular automata, phase transitions, time travel, mystical behaviors at atomic and sub-atomic levels, and the mysteries of consciousness.
Although these rudimentary drawings were without any leanings towards aesthetics, I found them to be beautiful, though that is clearly not their intention. I was inspired to create my own interpretations of the concepts of consciousness and other theories on a scientific, philosophical, and spiritual level through a simplified means such as drawing.
All of the projects I have created begin as drawings, which I feel have a beauty and intimacy that paintings cannot capture. The subtle lines that graphite creates and the quickness with which one can capture an idea makes this medium alluring.

Ghost radar posted a few Lucien Rudaux rarities recently.
Rudaux was best known for his science/astronomy illustrations. I’m happy to see these playful deviations from the norm.

I loved the Looney Tunes episodes that featured Witch Hazel. Adam Dougherty (aka Kreature Kid) made this incredible life size model of the screechy sorceress.
Amazing, no?

A few blog announcements…
1) There is a new FACEBOOK PAGE for instant access to posts as they go up. PLUS, to make it extra interesting, I will be sharing a mixed flurry of arts and oddities on the page that are NOT posted here. So please add or follow.
2) I am removing the disclaimer about my medical issues that has been on the bottom of my posts for the past year.
Typing is still too painful for the most part, but I am convinced that I WILL recover this year (doctor predictions be damned!)…so, although I continue to contend with it, I’m taking the illness off the site, until further notice.
3) There will be a new occasional quote feature (with visuals) to post the wisdom/humor/joy/depth I’ve encountered in the words of others during my period of relative silence. I suppose this takes the blog to a more personal level, via a small window into my brain and the things that move me.
4) With the aid of a dearly helpful friend, I will be opening an online store! First for SWS products, then personal designs when I am once again up to making things. All proceeds go to medical care.
Now let’s all imagine that my healthy will gracefully allow these things to happen! 🙂 Thanks so much for reading…
