My kindred spirit Cat referred to Spoon Theory today in a kind comment about my health. I immediately wanted to symbolically give her a special spoon, and the best way I could think to do so was with an image search for the most bizarre renditions of the final Hey Diddle Diddle lines.

I’ve posted many images of gorgeous paper cutting over the years, but Cybele Young has her own spin on papercraft: constructing miniature exact replicas of real world items, and juxtapozing them in a kind of dialogue.
This tiny curling iron is brilliantly titled “It’s Worth It This Time.”
She achieves such precise detail that it’s hard to believe these are made of paper.
I wish I could see a time lapse video of one of these pieces being made. Wouldn’t it be great to witness plain sheets of paper turn into this before our eyes?
I think this sculpture by Sung Jae Kim would make a great decoration to haul out at the beginning of summertime.

When I was a child, occasionally I’d experiment with “shaping” my pencil point in different ways (which involved simply flattening or rounding one side more than the rest).
Salavat Fidai takes the possibilities of pencil points to a whole new level.
He is a master of miniatures (as evidenced by his other work in different categories on his site as well…but the pencils are the most impressive!).

Kazuhiro Tsuji is a large scale hyperrealist sculptor, who taught himself to imitate life through trial, error and meticulous mimicry.
He is most famous for his portraits of Dali, Lincoln, Warhol and Dick Smith (his original mentor whom he contacted through Fangoria Magazine in 1987).

KriSoft, aka Christophe Goussault, is a French illustrator and paper mache sculptor.
As a child, he dreamed of creating a store filled with toys and games, and it’s clear that hos work maintains a kind of childlike wonder and imagination.
But he also incorporates a great deal of nature and metamorphosis in his creations.
He says “The need to make people dream is an essential thing for me.” I feel he succeeds!
