You may remember the cassette tape lamps I posted. Now here is one made of speakers, by Georgiosi. Who knew discarded musical paraphernalia would aid in the creation of fantastic lighting?
This one isn’t the most practical lamp, but it’s pretty neat anyway.
Under the picture’s on the creator’s site is this little rhyme:
Twinkle twinkle little speakers
Shedding shadows from their tweeters
Lost and found
I’ll bound them round
Shining a light that makes a sound
They say you never forget how to ride a bike. So if I ever hop back on one, this would be my helmet of choice (of course, I’d have to make my own version to save $200).

This delicate concept appeals to me; the ephemeral human form depicted with an even more fleeting captured slice of nature.

Uh oh, I feel a craft project coming on! I’m sure my wonderful housemate will be on board for this one since we are both media freaks (who probably have thousands of old tapes collectively).

Not only do I love the idea of recycling old media that had meaning for me, but the lighting effect is gorgeous. I definitely have to make one…or many.
This is the kind of rug that I’d love to have in my home (or future office), but may not allow anyone to walk on. Rather like those decorative “guest towels” that no one in the household dares to touch.
Even better, the scan depicts brain function during a state of warm altruism. I’m in love. Oh fMRI rug, you had me at “axial brain slices.”
I’ve seen in it posted in more than one place, so my “don’t regurgitate” instincts perked up. But this installation is just so darn gorgeous that I can’t help posting it. I look at a lot of paper craft, and this may be the finest castle I’ve ever seen.
Watarou Itou is a young Tokyo art student who clearly has a bright future in the art world! The installation is entitled Umi no Ue no Oshiro (A Castle On the Ocean).
It took over four years for Itou to complete the project. It is intricately electrically wired for a variety of lighting options (it also features a ferris wheel and train).

This is certain not a piece for everyone, but Ginga Squid makes a vintage doll eye ring that actually blinks when you move your hand.
You can really tell the eye is a vintage construction, and it goes wonderfully with the rest of the materials. A nice conversation piece, for sure.
My source for this image strip is entirely in Japanese, so I have no background info. It appears that a crafty fan has constructed a fancy, bejeweled Gundam. This type of project lends itself to all kinds of commentary, but I’ll refrain and let you all draw your own conclusions. I, for one, am impressed. As a lover of contradiction, I feel pretty comfortable with florid, lacy robots.
