Meagan Segal

After taking a look at Meagan Segal’s artwork, I asked her to email me a few pieces that would be appropriate for SheWalksSoftly. I got a splendid little cornucopia of morbid, lumpy anatomical bits set against classic still life backgrounds.

Dare I even wonder who would decorate their living space like this?

Oh dear…we are in a serial killer movie…

The damask wallpaper is a nice touch.

In addition to the disembodied organs, you will also find cupcakes and chocolates and traditional still life subject matter. Don’t believe me? Explore here.

LA “Artinerary”

Okay, I made up the word, but here is my LA art itinerary (artinerary). There are so many fantastic galleries out here, it was actually hard to choose a handful to prioritize.

Congregation Gallery Black Plague Art Show, which I already posted about

Copro Gallery- The Blab Show (this one features many of my favorite artists)

Corey Helford Gallery (currently has a Buff Monster exhibit, followed by a three artist show featuring Krista Huot, MIA and Korin Faught)

Distinction Gallery- Andy Haynes (solo show)

Gallery 1988- 3G Show: Ghostbusters, Goonies and Gremlins (a sweet heap of 80’s movie nostalgia…huge group show!)

Gallery Meltdown- The Woods are Lovely, Dark and Deep

Gallery Nucleus- Sweet Streets II (massive group show!)

Subliminal Projects- Shepard Fairey

And of course, the Lowbrow Tarot Art Show

Graphic designer and handlettering artist Sarah Maxey made a poster with a quote that could be stamped on pretty much everything I make.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve stayed home just to be crafty.

The Lowbrow Tarot Card Project

I’m really excited for The Lowbrow Tarot Card Project, soon to debut at La Luz De Jesus in LA.

Favorite artists, a favorite gallery, and a favorite subject matter! I truly enjoy seeing artist interpretations of the tarot. The cards fascinate me as visual representations of archetypes.

I believe there will be a deck and book released as well!

His collection of band posters, editorial and political art is so extensive that I’m going to make it easy on myself and highlight a few from the Po’boy site:

Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios de Oaxaca

Boing Boing just posted a link to some wonderful woodcuts by the Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios de Oaxaca.

The Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios de Oaxaca (Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca or ASARO) grew out of the 2006 Oaxaca teachers’ strike and the violence that followed. ASARO formed as a collective, no individual artist’s names are used, working in a variety of mediums to commemorate public actions and critique political responses.
