This post is really just an installment of “desktop goodies” with a Halloween theme. A few things I’ve right clicked…
The Zombanana has been making the online rounds like mad. I can’t recall my first source, but I keep seeing it.

From DWEIG:

A couple of selections from 64 Colors

Anyone know the source of this awesome picture? I wish I remember where I found it! If you blogged it…tell me…

Not many graves feature winged skulls anymore…particularly with bat wings.

A couple from Aurel Schmidt:

Wonderful take on a Suspiria movie poster:

Got runs in your tights? Make your pumpkins sexy!

Now, I’m really not a fan of dressing up animals…but this is rather brilliant:

I’m not putting the “Halloween Countdown” title on this post because it IS along the lines of my standard art selections. However, I think these Sidney Sime illustrations are perfectly suitable for the spirit of the season. Each one tells a haunting little story of its own, even when removed from its original context and shown as a single image.
I’ve posted a series of Day of the Dead paper cutouts, so I figured I’d take a sampling of other calaveras (skulls) in art.
Posada was known for his fantastic engravings, many of which features skulls and skeletons. It was hard to pick which ones to post.

Welcome to a month of Halloween posts! I won’t post about Halloween exclusively, because I know some folks out there get a bit tired of it. But I definitely have a bunch of Halloween goodies to share.
I’m attending the Lowbrow Tarot Art Show tonight. One of my favorite artists, Laurie Lipton, will have a piece on display.
I figured her work would be a great way to usher in the month of October. But PLEASE…do not just look at these images here. Go to her website and see the full sizes. You will not believe how much detail is lost here.
Lipton has an outstanding array of skeleton art to start your month off right (I had to choose just a few but there are many others). Keep in mind, all of these are pencil-on-paper drawings.
And check out these masks!
Really, go in for a closer look!

I can’t believe I’m missing her Machine Punk exhibit next month!
Let’s start with a few old fashioned hairstyling devices…
You’re never too young to start paying a miserable price for beauty.
This enticing image was a recent Suicide Food entry:

Precursor to the gold mine of sports drinks:

Although it was technically on Cake Wrecks, I think this cake is pretty great:

And for some reason this piece appeals to me.

Party hat for the cephalopd inclined?

I would very much like to have this product by my bathtub:

Great new mandala designs by Shepard Fairey:

Don’t you feel better, now that the anatomy has been explained? (I think I found this on Monster Brains…not sure)

Let’s put 20 seconds on the clock and see how many things we can find wrong with this picture. Okay…20 minutes…

Here’s something to get your mind off the Cabbage Patch dolls:

Halloween Countdown starts tomorrow so give me a hand with suggestions (*groooooan*)…

Maggie Hurley has a collection of adorable prints. A few characters include…
And then there is Herbert, a stoic little owl who finds himself in a wide variety of circumstances:

(Thinking of starting a new tag on here: “you can’t handle the cute!”)
Before I file these away, here’s a random sampling of pieces from various summer art shows that I happened to like. They’ve been hanging out on my desktop, waiting for a nice cozy home on the external hard drive.
I am truly astonished by Alexa Meade’s series of hyper-realistic acrylic body paintings. Upon first seeing these, I kept rubbing my eyes…incredible trompe l’oeil effect!
She has a remarkable talent to translate every nuance of how humans are represented with paint on canvas.
I would never guess that these are 3D living installations.
It’s been quite sometime since I first began to adore Charlie Immer’s sweet, de-fleshed creations.
They float somewhere between the horror of a messy crime scene and a child’s toy box. Like Saturday morning cartoons…with some bones and exposed viscera thrown in for good measure.
