Mads Peitersen brings us something outside the realm of standard form and function. What if your own prized gadgets housed human(ish) anatomical structures?
Now place your ear close to your computer and check for a heart beat…

I think my favorite thing about this piece is its name: The Companion Mat.
Doesn’t it give you the warm, fuzzy feelings that a good companion should?
It would be interesting to see the faces of visitors encountering this rug upon entering an otherwise welcoming foyer.
Sandra Yagi has a show opening up on January 12th at the Bert Green Fine Art Gallery in Los Angeles.
I like her “Dancing With the Stars” series of conjoined dancing skeletons, perhaps because it’s the only time I’ve seen a modicum of whimsy in this otherwise morbid, macabre subject matter.
The Anatomicals are also wonderful.
She has some clever Mutant Creatures as well.
From the artist statement:
Contemporary culture, human folly and an obsessive curiosity for the macabre provide the fuel for my subject matter. My work is inspired by the natural sciences as well as by the classical drawing techniques of the old masters, including anatomical studies by artists such as Andreas Vesalius and Bernhard Siegfried Albinus. My recent paintings incorporate anatomical imagery to explore the human psychological condition, such as cutaway skulls portraying our basic human drives and the thin veneer of humanity overlaying our animal nature.
Many more works at the gallery.

I have some holiday themed images floating on my desktop right now, but lets have a look at some of the regular (if such a a word can be used in this case) first.
First, a new piece by Camille Rose Garcia, whom I’ve posted about here, here and here.

[Insert split personality joke for the following]

The perils of waiting too long…

I’m not sure if this is how the “birth” of ideas really works.

Artistically rendered territory of taste:

And for those who prefer to practice beauty techniques with their own hands…

This image is actually a giant sea monster projectile vomiting thousands of human bodies. Whoa, indeed.

We’ll finish off with some beautiful projectile vomit by TYPOE

Look at this incredible knit skeleton by Ben Cuevas!
Yes, I said knit…
This installation is part of the Transcending the Material project.

Michael’s! You seductive siren, filled with Halloween craft supplies on clearance BEFORE the holiday itself! I walked in there to get ONE item needed for a handmade Xmas gift…and walked out with two bags of supplies.
I just realized that the treat bags were also in my Target stash…they sell them in both places. Sorry for the repeat.
Those antique style boxes in the background are perfect for vampire hunting kits! The skull treat bags, cupcake decorating kit, boxes, ribbon, tags and decorative textured border tape were all on clearance already! Believe me, I used utmost restraint because there was so much more I could have splurged on for great prices.
This is directly from the files of Dream Collaborations I’ve Envisioned, but Never Thought I’d Actually Get to See.
The Brothers Quay are shooting a film at the Mutter Museum.
I cannot think of a more perfect team to utilize the museum’s contents in film. I’m eager to see the results.
“Our films are dark fairy tales with elements of grotesquerie and the pathological,” Stephen Quay said on a recent afternoon.
Timothy added, “We set them in a twilight world, midway between sleep and wakefulness.”
See the Brothers’ last incredible exhibition I visited in NY here.
Don’t be fooled by this monstrosity. Target has some great Halloween goodies.
A few notes…
MONSTER CEREALS: What happened to the package design? Boo looks jaundiced and sickly. Frankenberry has a strawberry manicure like a pre-teen girl. The Count still has odd buck teeth instead of fangs.
POP TARTS: If you eat pop tarts, get these! They are autumn in sugary toaster pastry form. I can only handle Pop Tarts occasionally and I found myself addicted.
TREAT BAGS: Amazing job on the treat bag design this year…they’ve gone for a vintage look!
PLATES: These were a gift from someone who knows me quite well, obviously. I think they are my favorite Halloween plates of all time.
SOCKS: For a special baby girl I know. Adorable little skull design.
GROWING OCTOPUS: I know this isn’t Halloween related. But cephalopods rule.
This post is really just an installment of “desktop goodies” with a Halloween theme. A few things I’ve right clicked…
The Zombanana has been making the online rounds like mad. I can’t recall my first source, but I keep seeing it.

From DWEIG:

A couple of selections from 64 Colors

Anyone know the source of this awesome picture? I wish I remember where I found it! If you blogged it…tell me…

Not many graves feature winged skulls anymore…particularly with bat wings.

A couple from Aurel Schmidt:

Wonderful take on a Suspiria movie poster:

Got runs in your tights? Make your pumpkins sexy!

Now, I’m really not a fan of dressing up animals…but this is rather brilliant:
