Oooh…I wish I could have seen this incredible jellyfish installation.

These pieces are hand sculpted from porcelain.

I could browse through Japanese toys all day. These anatomically bizarre Dai Kaiju mini figures were released just prior to Valentine’s Day.

I’m a big fan of the alternative vibrantly colored set as well.

Exclusive to Spiral Toys.
Found on Vinyl Pulse.
Emma Hack’s body painting works are absolutely unparalleled.

I’m completely transfixed by the way she blends her subject with the background, morphing them into a single entity that seems to shift between two and three dimensions in the observer’s perceptual field.

Such an incredible eye for artistic reproduction…

Can you believe it’s only paint?

See more, and prepare to be amazed.
Weird Clothing Co. is offering these delightful Meat Shorts, seemingly designed as beach wear.

The label says they are “human meat” (an unconventional twist to the assorted meat apparel on the market).
Found on I Love Bad Things.
If you really want to turn some heads, you can pair these shorts with some Meat Socks in standard muscular tissue:

…or the stunning swirly intestinal variety:

I’m trying something entirely new here. Humor me, if you will.
I know that many of my readers are quite creative. I came across this image in a random google image odyssey the other day, and would love to see what you talented folks could do with it. I think it’s an appropriate coloring contest picture, given my love of all things relating to the science of mind/body/spirit.

So…color away! No rules! Digital, traditional art materials, anything. You can upload it and send a link, or email it to shewalkssoftlyblog@yahoo.com.
Right now you might be saying “Dana, who has time for a coloring contest? Don’t you realize the economy is a shambles? People have more important things to do than color bicycling bits of anatomy!”
Fair enough. But here are a few reasons to consider it:
1) Art is therapeutic. Take your mind off things. Relax. Be silly. Have fun. You deserve it.
2) Entries will be showcased and lauded on the interwebs. This can be fantastic cross promotion for your own site/work/blog.
3) The winner will receive a custom made SheWalksSoftly plush creature of his or her choice, made to order
Deadline: April 1st.
Strange beasts, pop culture iconography, body parts, giant floating letters, anthropomorphized pieces of meat, and fantastical turbulent landscapes are just a few of Ronald Kurniawan’s artistic motifs.

Many of his images struggle to negotiate and merge natural environments with a culture-maddened society.

Some of them are conceptually and metaphorically close to my heart.

Have a look through his wonderful galleries.
If you have seven minutes to spare, I recommend this stop-motion short film by the Lauenstein brothers.
Fans of Kafka and Sartre will be pleased as the characters shuffle around their fictional microcosm, searching for a piece of auditory happiness…and succumbing to the delicious ironies of human nature.
Thanks, Damon! Wonderful suggestion! 🙂
I know very little about this anatomical tomato, but how could I not find it absolutely fantastic?

There should be an entire series of anatomical fruits and vegetables. If this does not exist, I’d be perfectly happy to create one. Any edible requests?
I’ve just been happily perusing Aimee Wilder’s designs.
If ever a wallpaper alone could make me long for the pitter-patter of little SheWalksSoftlys in the house, it would be this robot wallpaper:

(Okay, so it’s not enough to make me want kids anywhere in the near future…but I love it)
I also love her analognights design. Looking at it gets me nostalgic for the days of my youth, with boom boxes and mix tapes.

And Sumo makes me chuckle…
