Maggie Taylor creates surreal digitally altered photographs; colorful, ethereal, and thought provoking.

Recently, an amazing friend pointed me toward active imagination (a Jungian exercise to help access the unconscious). These images remind me of the waking dreams my brain conjures using that technique.

  • DEADBEET Custom Group Show

    June 27th, 2013

I had to share this pun-tastic idea for a group are show.

    Banner1-600x404

Toy Art Gallery is proud to present Scott Tolleson’s DEADBEET Custom Group Show! The Deadbeet is 6” of soft vinyl veggie mischief, and we’ve invited 50 of the toy scene’s brightest and best toy artists customizers to tame this ragged root.

Posted by proxy from Dana’s “stuff to blog” queue while she is on medical hiatus. She reads and appreciates all comments…and apologizes for not being able to respond at the moment.

Pete Hawley’s Halloween Monsters are the most adorable monsters I have seen. Dana thought so too, and here you have them.  They are probably an American Greetings punch-out set from the 1960’s, at the height of the Monster Craze.

  • Watch Out! Here comes the Boogieman!

    June 25th, 2013

Hi everyone. It’s good to pop in and make a post for Dana, but I would much rather see her able to continue without interruption. It is two months since my last assist. Lets hope you don’t have me here long before Dana takes the wheel again.

Posted by proxy from Dana’s “stuff to blog” queue while she is on medical hiatus. She reads and appreciates all comments…and apologizes for not being able to respond at the moment.

Gosh, did I get a swell batch to post on my return! These wonderful “Boogeyman” images from the 1920’s are actually stereoview cards.

    DB1 DB2 DB3 DB4

From the auction listing, with edits:

1920s BOOGIE MAN child & goblins bedtime DROP CARD series of 15 stereoviews lot.  This particular series…would be very unique as halloween costumes & monster movies were just coming to life (at this time). This is pretty bizarre & scary series.

On back of one of the views it is written J-13 “The Goblins will get you if you don’t watch out.” The views also have ink stamps on back from 1923 from a Dept of Public Safety approved for Sunday. Since they came out of an early coin op machine there are machine… wear marks etc. They are almost 7″ x 3 1/2″ in size

    DB5 DB6 DB7 DB8

These did not sell for the asking $495.00.  The source listing won’t be online for long, but you can see more here.

  • Campbell’s Soup Kids

    June 21st, 2013

Let’s take a moment to focus on the kitschy, cutesy iconic marketing creations of Campbell’s.

    Brace yourself…here they come…
    il_fullxfull.425016512_njwh

The Campbell Kids have been selling Campbell’s Soup since 1904 when Grace Wiederseim Drayton, an illustrator and writer, added some sketches of children to her husband’s advertising layout for a Campbell’s condensed soup. The Campbell advertising agents loved the child appeal and choose Mrs. Wiederseim’s sketches as trademarks. –Source

I’m not sure what prompted Ms. Drayton to draw them as if they were hopped up on too much Adderall, but they certainly make an impression.

    images

Yes, they are staring right into the recesses of your soul, burning a hole in your brain…

The dolls are equally terrifying, yet I’d kind of like to have one (or two). I will leave them staring at unsuspecting guests when I step out of the room.

  • Owl Sweater

    June 18th, 2013

I don’t knit (I know, I know…I should learn but I already have so many craft obsessions). Sometimes I do random searches for knit patterns anyway. This came up in a query for “owl sweater.” Excellent pattern…

The design is subtle yet distinct. I wish I could knit it, because the ones I’ve seen for sale are at least $90.
