This cake is perfect for Halloween because it’s a trick AND a treat. Apparently, this recipe has been around for a long time but I just discovered it (asking my aunt, a fabulous cook, to make one the other day).

I ate half of the cake in one day, and I REGRET NOTHING! Mine was a gluten free, vegan version found here (because it’s easier on my currently fragile digestion), but there are lots to choose from.

Unlike other opaque decals I’ve seen in the past, these Bat Decals are a bit more photorealistic.
They remind me of antique illustrations. Very cool.
Though not specifically Halloween oriented, I feel Brian Mashburn’s art is beautifully atmospheric and worth appreciating this time of year. How I miss looking up and seeing a sky like this, back home in NY.
