Don’t you wish you could have been there as he had the audacity to propose a Sun-centered solar system?

Fragile Candy is apparently designed to resemble broken glass, in order to remind us that although candy is delicious…it’s bad for you.
Please.
I would attack a piece of good candy like a gladiator if I had to (armor and all). I don’t even like plain lollipops, but at first glance my brain inadvertently and automatically devised about 30 different ways to avoid the sharp edges.

Indulge me. Halloween is the one holiday when people suddenly become open to the darker side of things and step into a world that I appreciate year-round. I will never get over my love of Halloween kitsch. And what better place to find it than Oriental Trading Company?
Got my first catalog of the season! Let’s view some highlights, shall we?
The Organ Harvest Gummy Candies are on the very top of my wish list. If they look this great when they arrive, I’ll need to stock up. This is some LOVELY gummy design work:
The attention to detail in the Road Kill Gummy Candy is incredible.
Ah, the “Realistic Color Changing Brain.” Something for my future office, perhaps? Yes, I will be working with brains (conceptually…not actual brain meat).
There is also a Realistic Color-Changing Heart…now on sale.
I’m not usually a fan of tacky plastic wall/door coverings, but I think they did a good job with these kitchen cabinet and refrigerator covers (maybe it’s just my weakness for the “mad scientist” vibe)
I got supplies for my infamous “Guts Party” last year (which actually took place about as far from Halloween as possible in the calendar year) from Oriental Trading.
When I ordered the Candy Blood Bags I was unaware of the actual size…about 1″ X 2″. I had psyched myself into believing they were close in size to REAL blood bags. You can imagine my disappointment.

(Picture that moment of hilarious confusion when I realized I could palm about a dozen of these)Another purchase that was tasty, yet under par, was the Cherry Filled Eyeball Gum. The picture makes it look like there is a substantial “blood” center, but the reality is a dried up red splotch on hollow gumball insides. The flavor was good, but it disappeared fast. Consequently, I stuffed about ten of these in my mouth, one after another.
I’ve pieced together lighting setups like this before, but I find the Black Leaves Light Set rather beautiful, for any time of the year.
Please feel free to direct me to catalogs, sites and sales that feature Halloween memorabilia.

Kikkerland is a really fun place to browse for interesting products and gift ideas.
Their puzzle section has some great anatomical models. For example:
I call this one “Techno Snail” due to his electric and somewhat alien qualities:

And this is where bacon comes from, kids:

Of course, I’m still partial to the Human Torso Model I received for my birthday`from Ronnie last year.

This made the blog rounds a little while ago, and I still haven’t gotten over how awesome it is:

It even features storage for various waffle toppings on the back. Dare I say, it’s a complete waffle CENTER.
“We must have waffles! We must have waffles Forthwith!”
(Thee cheers for finding a truly relevant use for this quote) -
Today is the day that Ronnie, my lifelong Soul Friend, was born.
His favorite food is pickles. I planned to post the following image as if these little fellows were singing the Happy Birthday song:

And then it happened.
I did a google search for “singing pickle” and journeyed through an unexpected exhibit of how others have employed this concept. Turns out, there is an Electronic Yodeling Pickle, and even multiple online tutorials to draw singing pickles (we’ve all wanted to know).
Then there is the “fun alternative for kids in the schools,” The Pickle Sickle. And what I like to call Olde Time Love Pickles.
Do you have seven minutes? Then follow an irritating six year old boy and a melodramatic expatriate pickle named Polski on their journey to El Gorkia where Polski hopes to be reunited with his beloved pickle parents. They fly in a “hot sauce powered wok,” battle menacing seagulls and Bratwurst bullies (one gets stripped of his casing and gets his “nakedness” censored with a black bar).
Can you stand NOT knowing how it all turns out???
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RONNIE!

This is the kind of gratuitous geekery I’d love to display in my home, if I had the proper space to showcase them:
The main drawback of being an avid crafter, collector and book nerd is the nearly unmanageable shortage of open table/counter/shelf space. So I’ll sit back and admire these light boxes from afar.

For someone who rarely drinks alcohol I have a disproportionate interest in alcohol accessories. I’m intrigued by the apparatuses people invent to enliven the drinking experience. Take Etienne Menau’s Strange Carafes for example.
His wine decanters remind me of the human circulatory system.
If you’d like the presentation of your wine to have a distinctly vascular quality, you’ve found your carafes.

I never thought I’d see the likes of the Octopus Accent Lamp in the ultra classy Smithsonian Store. This overpriced treasury of worldly artifacts now caters to my love of marine invertebrates:
I love the product description: Normally shy, the marbleized amber art glass head of this charming cephalopod gently glows when illuminated. Resting on his intricately cast resin arms with antique bronze patina.
It can be yours for a mere $70. I would snag this in a heartbeat if the price dropped by about $60.
Clearly, they are venturing into the realm of highbrow kitsch. The discriminating collector can also purchase a number of very expensive, mildly terrifying Kewpie Dolls. My favorite among them: “Salon Girl.”

Now here’s the kind of efficiency that seems to have gone out of vogue in modern snack foods: a napkin, conveniently built right into the popcorn package.
We have countless novelty candies designed to make a mess (an undeniable part of their charm). But this harkens back to the days before Cheetos turned our fingers neon orange and the “ick factor” of powdery, gooey, drippy treats became so alluring.
