Every now and then I pop back on Luminous Lint to browse their fantastic photography exhibitions. Here are a few selections from the skull collection.
Some are actual medical images, quite disturbing (such as this 1966 Vietnam War X-ray of a grenade implanted in a man’s forehead):

My aesthetically kindred friend Chris just collected a series of fantastic “found photo” polaroids on her facebook page. I love the washed out color, and the visible finger prints on some of them.
So much beauty in the emptiness…
Then there are the slices of life, captured in a moment, anonymous yet somehow deeply personal…

I’ve been meaning to post about Red Nose Studio for ages.
What a marvelous collection of carved sculptures they have, all brilliantly photographed. Some characters evoke genuine pathos.
A favorite, of course:
Each piece has such a unique “atmosphere” to it (I love the machinery and contraptions).
I was thinking to myself that these 3D sculptural illustrations would make dynamite stop motion animation. Sure enough, a video search turned up some results.

Every now and then, a fashion photography shoot strikes a chord with me. This one by Miles Aldridge (a wonderful photographer, indeed) appeared in the Italian version of Vogue.

Morgan, I’m indebted to you because I’ve been meaning to post images from The Architect’s Brother that I’d saved, but failed to properly credit in my files. This is one of my favorite photo series.

I am not a photographer. I don’t even know how to use Photoshop. I’m just a snapshot taker who loves to capture an eyeful of something interesting.
My father and I stopped at the Hollywood Forever cemetery early this morning. They had some of the most impressive mausoleums I’ve seen in modern cemeteries.
The feeling floats somewhere between classic memorials and sci-fi dystopian burial cities.
And this is for my fellow punk rock fans:

I first saw the work of David Sykes start to pop up on various blogs that feature anatomical/macabre art, due to his recent skull pops:
Upon checking his portfolio, I found it was a treasure trove of finely captured kitsch.
Innovative presentation…
Not to mention food textures, up close and personal.
However, my favorites are his slightly skewed domestic scenes, complete with subtle anatomical model decoration. And meat. Meat in unlikely places.
This table pulls off a subtle grotesqueness that fascinates me:

When I was a child, I used to build elaborate forts and tents in my house. I’d use anything; furniture, boxes, blankets, household objects, intricate string setups for hanging cloth. Then those beloved ephemeral worlds would be destroyed.
Here’s a favorite indoor camping photo (sadly, not my own). I can’t tell what I love more: the library itself, the setup, or the particular combination of the two.
Over the last few years, I’ve had an odd urge to “camp out” in the large open space of my window-filled living room during a thunderstorm.
