I recently received a link to this incredible automaton: The Waiting Hand. Something about the movement in this brilliantly crafted kinetic sculpture is so eerie…I love it…

I can’t say I’ve ever thought much about bean bag chair design. Most seem to follow the standard sphere-loosely-stuffed-with-styrofoam-pellets formula. But look at THIS one, by chicindiedesigndotcom.
The details are knit, instead of painted! This would make a lovely addition to a cozy cabin in the woods (I’ve had trips to woodland cabins on the brain lately, for some reason).
See more photos of the lovely grizzly here.

Russian artist Sergey Bobkov crafts animal sculptures out of wood chips and shavings. Each one is carefully based on the anatomy of the actual creature and takes months to create.
Bobkov devised his own methods of creating these sculptures. “It’s not too interesting to do what others can,” he says. “To create something out of nothing in a completely new way is far more inspiring.”

After my brief foray into the artistic underworld of sickening pretension, I’m back to featuring something I’m absolutely crazy about: the Laser Cut Victorian Doll House.
I was recently musing about hypothetical components of my “dream house.” Well, I’m pretty sure it’s all here.
I think I want to pin a picture of this on the wall for inspiration. Luckily, if I can never live in a house like this…I’m pretty sure I’d be thrilled just to have the model.
It would take a staggering amount of work to put this together, properly painted and all. But it would be SO worth the finished product!

(Note: a generous benefactor…we’ll call him…Sir Blue Flavor…has tentatively agreed to fulfill my dreams of owning this, under the condition that I address my remaining health troubles and get nice and strong…he’s got a DEAL!)
Ah, a girl can dream…

I prattle on about art that I love in this blog. Sometimes I clamor to describe what I consider the repulsive underbelly of the art world.
Luckily, Craftastrophe has done a fine job of choosing a representative example for me.
Aside from mourning the fate of that poor crushed rabbit, I can’t say I’m all that bothered by the lack of what most might call “talent” exhibited here. Not everyone is a virtuoso, and that shouldn’t matter. I encourage creativity regardless of skill level.
But it irks me when I see the piece above accompanied by THIS personal bio:
I strive to be one of the Greatest Mysteries of the century. I adore things from years past and try my best to ignore the present culture. My home is a colourful blend of rock memorabilia, old books, antiques, and everything pure nostalgia. My wardrobe gives me away as a Dandy. I proudly clothe myself in vintage thrifted treasures. I’m a Mod waif with cropped golden blonde hair- all legs and big green eyes. Since birth I’ve clearly been a moody and eccentric artist. My loves of art and Music are intertwined and it’s impossible to choose one over the other. Until I met my husband I spent all my time listening to records and dressing up. Now we do that together. He’s a sexy rockstar and theatrical to the core. Together we’re just a pair of eccentric androgynous peacocks- and we like it that way.
Thanks, Craftastrophe!

I’ve never attempted to make amigurumi creations (one day, perhaps…but there are so many craft methods I’m itching to try). But for those who are already skilled in the art of crocheted plush toys, Crobots seems like a wonderful resource.
I’m sure every robot in this book is adorable! I wish I had the time to learn how to make them.
Does anyone do amigurumi creatures? If so, please show me photos!

I wish I had seen these before my 80’s nostalgia party last year! Space Invader press on nails manage to kill TWO nostalgia birds with the same 8-bit stone! Retro video games and press on nails (remember THOSE, fellow female children of the 80’s?).

It always brightens my day to come across artists and crafters who are doing something unique (or at least perfecting a skill beyond the levels most people achieve).
Remember making these in elementary school? This was probably the height of most peoples’ pipe cleaner sculpting abilities:
Well, check this out, fellow candy cane reindeer makers…
Teblad’s Deviant Art gallery has the most intricate pipe cleaner sculptures I’ve seen…particularly the dragons.
Wonderful handiwork!
There are also non-dragon creatures.

I’m currently swooning over Datamancer’s Alchemist Keyboard.
The side lighting is wired into the scroll lock LED and turns on with a press of the scroll lock key. It is a USB keyboard, but because the lighting is hooked into the scroll lock function, this keyboard is designed for a PC, not a Mac. The function keys display the elemental symbols of the various metals used in the construction of the keyboard, as well as a few others. The tilde and number keys display the symbols for the sun, moon and the planets. The symbols for Earth, Air, Fire and Water are found on the arrow keys and the number pad uses stylized Roman numerals. The Enter and Shift keys are labeled with the symbols for Alchemical processes like mixing, stirring, combining, etc.
Datamancer is simply brilliant.
