I just enjoyed a rare mini-vacation in NYC and am preparing a NYC megapost of oddities. Should be up tomorrow!

This marks the 1,000th post on this blog. I feel like I should do something special, but basically I want to extend tremendous thanks to everyone who has bothered to read my little collection of oddities. It started as a way for me to keep an online scrapbook of sorts…and I’m so happy this site has managed to reach like-minded individuals (despite my complete inability to engage in promotional efforts).
So thanks for sharing the darker, lighter and just plain unusual corners of my psyche. I’d welcome any feedback or suggestions as to how to make this site better.

Unfortunately, wordpress doesn’t thread comments automatically so you have to click the “notify me by email” box if you want a reply.
I’ve been using other methods to respond to comments, but I’d like to start making direct replies on the site.
PLEASE CLICK THAT BOX for email notification when you comment! Let me know if it’s not working…

I just want to thank everyone who wrote in or commented on my Boo Berry post, telling me where they’ve spotted it. I did buy some! If you’re looking, most Target stores carry it (and I saw it in Waldbaums as well).
I’m very grateful that people actually reported back to me with their findings! You guys are awesome.

I’m now in the process of trying to get a replacement laptop (hooray for the warranty!). Much to the company’s chagrin, my current machine is totally irreparable, though still quite new. I’ll be bringing out my old computer later today while this matter gets sorted out.

Dealing with some computer problems and a neck injury. I’ll resume posting tomorrow, so please come back!

It looks like the overwhelming majority of readers who took the poll would like to see me post miscellaneous images, even if I can’t give proper credit. However, I’m going with Ghoul Friday’s suggestions and my own gut feeling. I will:
1) Will not take credit for the image (of course!).
2) Always include a disclaimer about the unknown source, and ask for any information readers may have about it.
3) Make it clear that I do not intend to sell or reproduce the images for profit (and they’re not to be used by others for this purpose). Thanks for the input! I’m excited to share some of this fun stuff.

I’m currently in Pittsburgh at the most incredible neuroscience and integrative medicine symposium. I’ll be blogging again on Monday or Tuesday (at the latest) with much fun stuff. Please come back!

Here are the wonderful winners of last month’s coloring contest.
WINNER:

This trip-tastic collage by Skywalker contains so many of my favorite things: vintage illustration, anatomy, chocolate, sideshow freaks, colorful insects…I love it!Please go check out Skywalker’s blog, Terra Incognita. It’s always a wonderful collection of eye and brain candy.
Honorable Mentions:
Jason, you have officially colored the hell out of a bike! 🙂 Check out those movement lines! You can almost hear the whooooosh…

Thanks, Megan! Very nice job, especially with shading. This could be a professional illustration in a children’s book about mind-body medicine (if only those existed!).
