Phalibois Fishing Monkey Automaton

Though I’ve come across many over time, I have never made a concerted effort to seek out automata by Henry Phalibois. After seeing this fishing monkey, I’m inspired to check out his entire viewable collection (they seem to be spread all over the internet without one definitive source).

When in motion, the monkey lifts his fishing rod up and down, puts his pipe to his moving lips (which are quite eerie!), turns his head to look at you, and the fish in the pond swim around.

  1. I love this automata. As lovely as it is, even lovelier is it’s antiquation and subtle creepiness. Nice find, Dana. Poor monkey’s gonna starve though. You see, obviously a wicked witch cursed all water to solidify and succulent fruit to be poison. And then there’s the little problem of being encased in glass. Do monkey eat fish? I’m not sure, I assume, since some monkeys will also cannibalize. Then again, obviously this monkey is an evolved species, looking all regal and such, smoking his pipe. Mouth cancer set in already; that’s why his mouth is eerily decrepit. All blither blather aside, imagine reality had a music track. You walk into a forest and fairytale music plays. The same forest at night now has dramatic haunting music. I put on black clothing and Back in Black plays. Wait a minute, I’m still blither blathering.

    • I don’t think they eat fish…but they don’t wear jackets and ruffled garments (what are those things called? Pantaloons? Knickerbockers?) either.

  2. Remarkable things here. I am very glad to look your post.
Thanks so much and I’m having a look ahead to contact you.
Will you kindly drop me a mail?

  3. What they don’t expect is for you to go that one percent extra to solve their issue or needs.
For instance, you have your own small company and want to
continue enjoying the benefits brought along by internet related services and lack sufficient space.
In addition to this, the plans offered by cheap web hosts also include online backup storage, website designing tools and online databases.

  4. Hey! Do you know if they make any plkugins too protect against hackers?
I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve
    worked hard on. Any suggestions?
