Sharkleberry Fin
It takes so little to entertain me. Case in point, I really LOVE that a flavor called “Sharkleberry Fin” exists (or did, anyway). A major drink manufacturer crafted a ludicrous literary pun that invokes strange musings of a mythical sea beast flavored berry. Nice.
I missed this one in the 80’s, as I wasn’t big on Kool Aid. What does a SHARKLEBERRY taste like? Can anyone enlighten me? Don’t say orange-strawberry-banana (the technical flavor aim of the product)…I encourage made up adjectives to describe it.
Apparently, other flavors in the Kool Aid wildlife collection include Rock-A-Dile Red, Purlesaurus Rex, Great Bluedini, Pink Swimmingo and Incrediberry. This is exactly the kind of absurd thing I’d want to try despite the fact that I am a grown woman.
Tell me your stories with crazy flavors!

I am in love with this flavor! We don’t find it in the store very often, and when we did my boyfriend bought me a while box of it. I am l loved!
To me, it tastes like childhood summers.

Awww…that’s what Crystal Light and Lipton iced tea do for me!

My mom used to make sun tea on the back porch… 🙂

Okay, to replicate the flavor take a packet of Splenda, mix it into a 12 ounce glass of tap water, not filtered, add a teaspoon of the juice of your choice, and one drop of ink, any color you like. As for the variety of flavors that were offered, the difference in taste was indeed minimal.

This made me laugh out loud. Exactly why I never drank Kool Aid…there either wasn’t enough flavor or it nearly burned my mouth w/sour, tangy madness.

I was a Lipton iced tea and Country Time pink lemonade fan myself. What we don’t realize is Sharks have a flavor name for us – Humanpatootie Bootyrooni. What memories these Kool-Aid packets bring as I begged my reluctant mom for the mystery powder along the grocery aisle like some little sugar junkie, until I reamped my goal for Count Chocula or Boo-Berry cereal. In reality I’d guess Sharkleberry Fin would taste like you dumped a pound of sugar into a fish bowl and added a drip of Hawaiian fruit punch. Somehow someway you just know Kool-Aid must’ve partnered with Willy Wonka on this one, juicing sharkberries day-in day-out.

Me and my friend used to loooooove Rock-a-Dile Red! For our final exams in highschool, we just spooned the dry mix out of the bucket one night because we knew the coloring and sugar would keep us awake and we studied all night! Needless to say we totally aced the tests 🙂

I loved the Purplesaurusrex flavor and wish they would bring it back. Anyone know how to replicate the taste of that? I would love to know!

I loved the Purplesaurusrex flavor! Does anyone know how to replicate the flavor of that? I would love to know! I am quite surprised Kool-Aid hasn’t brought back any retro flavors for a short time. Major soda companies do it, we have Mountain Dew Throwback and Pepsi Throwback (made with real sugar).

We may see a Kool Aid revival yet. If it happens, I’m trying all of them.
