Daniel Martin Diaz: The Soul of Science

Daniel Martin Diaz: Soul of Science is a series that speaks to me on such a personal level, as I am always steeped in some swirling combination of art, science, consciousness and philosophical musings…

In the artist’s own words:
In the fall, I became immersed in scientific and philosophical theories. In particular, I was obsessed with scientific diagrams, which explain theories and properties through drawings.

My interests also included subjects such as self-aware systems, philosophy, cellular automata, phase transitions, time travel, mystical behaviors at atomic and sub-atomic levels, and the mysteries of consciousness.

Although these rudimentary drawings were without any leanings towards aesthetics, I found them to be beautiful, though that is clearly not their intention. I was inspired to create my own interpretations of the concepts of consciousness and other theories on a scientific, philosophical, and spiritual level through a simplified means such as drawing.

All of the projects I have created begin as drawings, which I feel have a beauty and intimacy that paintings cannot capture. The subtle lines that graphite creates and the quickness with which one can capture an idea makes this medium alluring.

  1. I really like his art and watched the vid. I can see the Spanish/Mexican art culture he interjects also. For me it grabbed my soul and churned the cogs of my imagination. Automatically I understood why you personally relate to it. I did too. I think to the right people it can be poetic for the spirit and there’s three aspects admirers visualize it: With the eyes, the window to the soul, and the heart, the path to the soul. Those who are affected through both is the third level or the third eye and therefore the most enlightened. I feel compelled to say – Namaste!

  2. I really enjoyed this post and I can see why it appealed to you after reading your bio section. As an occupational therapist I worked in a long term acute care hospital for 4+ years with patients weaning from ventilators and other extremely invasive medical procedures. One of the physical therapists I worked with encourage me to study myofascial release – it’s very powerful work that I’ve witnessed the results of. I see it as connected to your field of clinical psychophysiology. The psyche and body are inextricably linked and we will certainly grow in wisdom and care as a society as more people, doctors, caregivers, and patients understand this.

I came to your blog through a mutual friend and I am glad for the recommendation. It is lovely to read your thoughts.

    Thank you.
