Vintage Book Covers: Spooky Beautiful Antiques

Whether or not you like spiders…this is rather special.

Thank you, Headless Hearseman for this one:

A first edition of Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal.

What a beautiful process book binding/cover crafting used to be…

Amazing…

One of my all time favorites:

  1. These are incredible! I guess all that art went into LPs or something. And now… PC desktops? It seems like these days we prefer to separate our beautiful things from our useful things

    • It’s so true. People used to take such pride in their book collections. I actually have hundreds of antique “Ex Libris” book plates saved because the art to simply LABEL a book was so breathtaking ages ago.

    • I’d be thrilled to find the last two! You already have many fantastic monstrous editions to resurrect for the Shelves.

  2. HI, great blog! Found it by accident, actually, but I’m loving it.

By the way, you can still find book covers like these – but they’re extremely expensive nowadays.

I’m an amateur bookbinder and I tend to follow most of the old ways (about 150 years old, actually) so, while researching, I’ve seen some great books made by modern artists. Not everything is scrapbooking, luckily! : )
