The Tissue Series by Lisa Nilsson has come up on a ridiculously large number of blogs I follow, so I hesitated to re-post it. But like other “popular” posts (well, for my niche anyway), I hate to think a fellow anatomy craft fan might have missed this!
Nilson crafted a stunning series of anatomical cross sections by quilling the images from classic texts.
I’m awestruck by this work. I would LOVE to have one of these in my library (or future office).
Has anyone tried quilling? I haven’t, officially (aside from occasional 3D curlicues on greeting card designs).

I’m glad you posted this because I would not have otherwise seen it. In addition to the craft itself I’m impressed with the display boxes, or frames.
The boxes and frames are such a perfect complement to these pieces. Love them!
Wow. Quilling lends itself really well to depicting internal tissue. These look like real body specimens. Amazing work. Thanks for sharing.

WOW! Amazing! This reminds me of the time my parents took me to a museum when I was young. There I found a real body sliced in tiny sections, from head to toe, so you could get a look at the insides from one side to the other. This work looks so much like pieces I remember!
I’m quite the connoisseur of anatomical cross sections, and I must agree that these are VERY well done!
