Is nothing sacred? After reading this news about a remake of one of my favorite classic animations, The Secret of NIMH, I see that (certain) movie makers are willing to suck the life out of anything for a profit.
There was something deeply soulful and moving about this movie. The animation had an intensity that I’ve yet to see in any CGI film. I watched it countless times as a child, transfixed by the glowing fluid images that emerged from darkness.
Still frames simply don’t convey the depth of visual experience. The main characters may be cute, but they are entangled in a sinister story of science and destruction. I absolutely love how the cold human practices we barely acknowledge are juxtaposed with the underground magical, mystical rodent kingdom. Humans appear to be the callous, clumsy, alien species through the eyes of these tiny enlightened creatures.

I love this film. Matter of fact I watched it twice this year, once in May, and once in June.

noooo!!! leave my childhood aloone! i HATE what they did with Strawberry Shortcake and now Secret of NIMH!?!
Do you even need to ask if any child of the 80’s has fond memories?! Oh this movie…I still can’t watch the end with a dry eye. One of the greatest…and so interesting to look back on as an adult with knowledge of what NIMH was…and still is!
We will see. I’m reserving judgment until I see the film.
But remember, the classic 80’s movie was itself based on a book. It too made changes from the original– rather drastic ones, some of them. The new CG film won’t be the first time NIMH has been subject to revison/ reinterpretation. And *IF* the remake ends up sticking closer to the spirit of the original book, it may not be such a bad thing.

Aw, this was a truly nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and actual effort to make a pretty fine article?- but what can I say?- I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something accomplished.

IIUC, this new CGI movie will be a prequel (The rats escaping from NIMH) and NOT a remake of the original.
