Mighty Tiny and Pocket Rockers

Lest some of us forget that our obsession with miniaturizing technology began long before the advent of the iPod Nano (or even the 90’s mini disc player that never quite caught on), I bring you the Mighty Tiny record player:

I can’t imagine many tiny records were made for this device. Proud owners were probably stuck with the same few tunes, a limitation hopefully balanced out by the novelty factor.

This ad reminded me of the flash in the pan 80’s trend, Pocket Rockers; mini tape players designed to be used as a fashion accessory.

The song selection was limited to this short and painfully 80’s list.

If you really want to bring yourself back in time, watch the commercial:

That song will now be stuck in your head all day. I apologize.

  1. I think this is my favorite post so far.
Records are great. Record gimmicks are great. Mighty Tiny records are great.

Meanwhile, I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen those Pocket Rockers accessorized much in Brooklyn these days.

  2. I remember Pocket Rockers those things were the devil in my elementary school

The kid in that Mighty Tiny thing has a jaw that holds the player in it’s mouth

  3. I remember seeing them at Toys R Us several years ago. Now we have MixMax, which uses SD cards. slotMusic, which used MicroSD cards is now available.

  4. I have in my possession a Mighty tiny record player and thiry (30) records. the play is in need of minor repair. the records are perfect. maybe listened to only once or twice. anyone interested? what do you think a good asking price would be?

    • Charlie, it’s amazing that you actually have one! I’m sure collectors would go crazy for it on ebay. Perhaps search for some similar items and try to gather a fair asking price idea from your results.
