I can always count on the fantastic Wurzeltod to uncover the gems I may have somehow overlooked in my web wanderings. One such example is Barnaby Barford.
Barford creates twisted, sardonic narratives from vintage ceramics and found objects.
I truly enjoy the use of past kitsch and ephemera to comment on modern indulgences.

What better way to end Christian Covers Theme Week than with a controversial building entitled A Device to Root Out Evil.
This upside-down church by Dennis Oppenheim couldn’t find a permanent home in New York, San Francisco or Vancouver without encountering protest.

I’m a huge fan of using collections in unconventional ways. One useless object? Possibly useless, indeed. Hundreds of the same useless object? MATERIAL!
I think this Key Tree that appeared outside of the Los Angeles Lucent L’amour festival last month is an eye-catching little treat.
I suppose I have a weakness for twirling, winding metal…
And I now feel oddly justified for keeping useless collections of objects, with artistic intent.
Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz created these life sized wax figures using themselves as the mold. Imagine the metaphysical implications of seeing your body melt to the ground before your eyes.
“We cast ourselves as candles in a mixture of beeswax and parafin with a wick running through the center from head to feet. We lit the candles at the beginning of our show in PPOW Gallery and we let the candles burn and run their course throughout the exhibition. Our candle bodies slowly melted away for the duration of the show.”
I’d like to burn a wax model of myself to the ground. I’m sure I’d find some fantastically symbolic Jungian delight in the process.
Forgive the literal title. I saw these sculptures posted in a number of places, and the only source link I can find is this Russian site.
I love the expressiveness of the poses. These skeletons are contemplative, forlorn; they appear to convey a sense of longing.

I’m sure no one can forget Shave the Baby from a few days ago. Well, Steph found the origins. Turns out, it’s an art piece by Polish artist Zbigniew Liberia, and there’s plenty more shocking fare where this hirsute baby came from.

Paul Graves takes balloon sculpting into a whole new arena. Remember being impressed with a balloon dog or mouse as a kid? Well hang onto your hats…
I love this sculpture so much. My only regret is its inevitable deflation.
