I’ve posted about Ray’s Pumpkins before (which are works of art themselves), but check out this outstanding sand sculpture!

Without knowing where it came from, I featured one of Carl Warner wonderful meatscapes in this desktop goodies post.
Turns out, there are many more “Landscapes of the Meal” where that came from!
When I first saw these images, I thought they were strictly graphic design, but they are actual sculptures.
Creating an edible landscape takes several days. First designed by selected foods. Then two or three days spent on the construction and landscape photography…each scene is photographed layers. Just a few days spent on retouching and combining all layers and elements of photography.
See more absolutely amazing foodscapes here and on Carl Warner’s website.

I can’t help but revisit and repost certain artists on this blog. Sandra Arteaga is one of them.
I absolutely love her new display, The Funeral of Mr. Cookie.
(Check out the little ice cream baby!)
So twisted and amazing…
Check out some previously selected examples of her work and her Axolotl.

I’ve posted about the Hatbox Ghost before (this fellow has also been an inspiration for jewelry and T-shirts I’ve made). Now Kevin Kidney has fashioned a wonderful maquette for an auction celebrating Walt Disney resort’s 40th anniversary, October 1st.
The sculpture is based on Collin Campbell’s original painting for the famous 1969 Disneyland Record, “The Story and Song from The Haunted Mansion.”
See the artist’s post about Hatbox Ghost here.

Sculptor Cedric Laquieze puts an uncommon spin on articulated skeletons.
It’s amazing, the new festive air a skeleton takes on when bedecked with colorful organic materials.
These dead creatures sprouting with life have a compelling intensity to them.

This sculpture by Evan Campbell has been making the blog rounds lately, but it’s too disturbingly amazing to pass up re-posting here.
Campbell is an extremely talented sculptor of gruesome oddities whose work has been featured in the movies of Martin Scorsese, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Mann and Kevin Smith.

I couldn’t find much information about these paper cut and colored sculptured from Nate Page.

These sculptures by Creatures from El are unique, magical hybrids of biology and design.
Each sculpture can be customized in a variety of ways…
I wonder how the designs take their shape; to what degree they are planned and what degree the shape and forms simply emerge as part of the creation process.
I would love to have this one perched on my desk to keep me company:

I’ve had Luke Jerram’s collection of Glass Microbiology sculptures bookmarked for a very long time, but my own recent forays into the world of of brain cells and biochemistry reminded me to revisit the site.
The glass sculptures were created to contemplate the global impact of each disease and to consider how the artificial colouring of scientific imagery affects our understanding of these phenomena. Jerram is exploring the tension between the artworks’ beauty, what they represent and their impact on humanity.
I wish I could request some sculptures!

Something about these tiny old darlings, humbly perched with the tree that bears their initials against a vast glittering background, is rather touching.
Perhaps I’m remembering something a friend said recently…a dream she had about two people in love and all the world around them disappearing.
May you all carve out something simple and beautiful that makes a bare world sparkle around you.
