It’s been ages since I’ve played a board game of any kind, but I can’t help drooling over this collection of classic monster games.

Since I was out of town for the past week without time to build up extra posts (and only minimal time for my excessive web browsing), I think I’ll just invite you all back into my head with a small spattering of images currently on my desktop.
Skeletons and skulls seemed to pop up more than usual in my findings this week (I’m saving most of them for future posts).

I’d like to introduce you to the Pacific Pinball Museum.
I’m about to reveal two things that show me in a decidedly unromantic light. Aside from thinking “Wow! I’d love to see the artwork and design on these machines,” my other two initial impressions were:
1) I don’t even want to imagine the noise when this place gets crowded.
2) I would have to play at least 60 pinball games to equal the cost of admission (which includes unlimited games)
Of course, it’s a museum, so calculating game cost is irrelevant. It’s simply the way my mind works sometimes. The place actually looks pretty cool.

Oh yes, your eyes do not deceive you. This is one tough Tarsier. For those who are not familiar with the animal upon which this action figure is based, here it is:
Until I did a bit of image searching, I could never picture this precious little primate wielding a large machete. But then I saw one who appears to be…peeved. I wouldn’t want to cross this fellow.

There is not much information about the Battle Beasts. They appeared on the scene and disappeared after only four short issues of their comic book.
I highly suggest checking out some of the other characters in the Battle Beasts: Millennium, Series Three. You’ll find awesome actions figures like Torrential Tapir, Manic Mandrill, Pillager Pig, Ardent Aardvark, Bodacious Bovine, Zealot Zebra…and many more.
Am I the only one who finds the names delightful? Did anyone own one of these figures?

I’ve already seen a nice array of online April Fools Day pranks today, but one of my all time favorites has to be the Spaghetti Tree Hoax of 1957.
The BBC current affairs program Panorama told a tale of a family in southern Switzerland harvesting spaghetti from the fictitious spaghetti tree, broadcast at a time when this Italian dish was not widely eaten in the UK and some Britons were unaware spaghetti is a pasta made from wheat flour and water. Hundreds of viewers phoned into the BBC, either to say the story was not true, or wondering about it, with some even asking how to grow their own spaghetti trees.

The inimitable John K. just had a really neat blog post, featuring some retro puppets. Gotta love the 3-D modeled heads atop (sometimes badly) drawn cloth rags.
I’m envisioning a factory that only makes the cheap cloth bottoms…the puppet bottom factory.
