Sweet Lord: The Chocolate Jesus

Cosimo Cavallaro’s Chocolate Jesus came up in conversation recently, prompting me to re-explore Cavallaro’s work.

Here is the illustrious Chocolate Jesus (made safe for work, though a simple google image search calls up many original pictures)

(Incidentally, if anyone ever told me I’d be editing chocolate Jesus private parts…I wouldn’t have believed it)

Cavallaro also has a series of Sweet Saints.

And some rather unnerving installations involving cheese.

Joshua Longo’s plush installation at the Shelburne Museum wins the prize for WORLD’S CUDDLIEST ENTRAILS.

I can honestly say I’ve never felt the pressing need to curl up in the entrails of a disemboweled creature.

I was *beyond* excited to view Wim Delvoye’s collection of Gothic anatomical stained glass windows. I have had so many x-rays and scans over the years that I am, most likely, radioactive by now. I always wished to keep my x-ray prints for various art pieces. It’s thrilling to see bones and organs immortalized in this classic fashion.

This falls somewhere between postmodern fiction and a trashy b-movie concept, and therefore is simply amazing.

Is there a word for when the entertaining properties of promotional efforts actually surpass that which is being promoted? I’ve never seen the program, but these murderous Dexter marketing schemes are impressive.

I’m not sure if advertising SHOULD be so mind-blowing, but that’s a philosophical debate for another day. Right now, I’m just amused by the morbid displays that are bound the shake up the pedestrians. Many more on this blog (in Spanish).
