I’ve seen scattered images from Troels Carlsen around the web and just managed to track down the name behind the work. I’m rather partial to his series of skeleton installations.
These skeletons are always emerging…breaking through…enjoying miniature moments of personal triumph. They are curious and worldly little things.

One of my favorite things about traveling is encountering local treasures such as this.
What a beautiful installation by Paul Cocksedge:
200 sheets of electrically conducive material, each hand sculpted, appear to flutter through the air as if freed by a giant gust of wind.
This installation was constructed in the courtyard of a Lyon hotel for the annual Fête des Lumières (festival of lights).

Until recently, I had not heard of the World Tree of Hope in San Francisco City Hall.
People “from world leaders to school children” have contributed their wishes for a better world via paper cranes that now decorate the tree.
You can make a wish for free and be part of this lovely project.
I would love to make a miniature version of this to adorn with the wishes of (or my good wishes for) my friends and loved ones. I could also see myself having all wishes written on candy, to be eaten up in good cheer during a holiday gathering!

I decided to do a little google image odyssey for holiday window displays in NYC, since some of them tend to be very elaborate and fantastical. I came across the Carnival of the Animals series at Bergdof Goodman.
Each window features a specific material that depicts animals you’ll find from icebergs to the tropics—but rarely on Fifth Avenue.
Now, even for those like myself who have pretty much NO interest in highbrow fashion, the outstanding artistry in these window displays trumps many of the gallery installations I’ve seen.
I do hope to walk by in person before they disappear on January 15th so I may immerse myself in each tableau up close.

Kate Rohde creates colorful sculptures and installations that hover somewhere between taxidermy and rainbow colored kitsch.
I’m not always one for bright colors, but I love the way she coordinates her color schemes in these pieces.
