I just went through Mark James Porter’s entire blog to check out all of his sculptures (plus art and accompanying sketches).
I love his take on popular characters, such as the classic Alice in Wonderland favorites.

This great article features an 1840’s miniature butcher shop, complete with a series of strung-up meats.
A few different theories surround this incredible creation. Some believe it was intended for presumably less squeamish children of the Victorian era, while others call attention to the popular trend of miniatures for adults at the time. Either way, it’s an intriguing artifact.
This 1900 model, on the other hand, was made by esteemed German toymaker Christian Hacker (definitely intended for children):

I’m the kind of girl who stumbles upon pictures of The Barbie Dream Hearse by accident amidst my regular web perusals.
I forget what search made this come up, but I’m glad it did. From the website:

Vanessie Art Dolls are the work of the talented Esther Verschoor.
The dolls and outfits are hand crafted from a wide variety of materials. And all real skulls are from animals who have died of natural causes (never killed for food, fur or human use).
As if the costumes weren’t brilliantly detailed enough, many of the dolls are actually sporting lacy underwear and stockings beneath!
Some figures are placed within sculptures or scenes…
Fans of interesting taxidermy and Gothic/Victorian fashion will love these pieces.

And speaking of food, I shouldn’t have seen these…because now I will undoubtedly surprise unsuspecting guests with them one day (I’d carry them out facing backwards so the faces are extra shocking).
