Super Blood Moon

One complication of Lyme disease and other bug born illnesses is the exacerbation of symptoms during the full moon due to the natural cycles of the pathogens. Wondering why my pain levels just escalated from incapacitating to “somebody please kill me!” I remembered that tonight is the SUPER BLOOD MOON.

Not only is the moon remarkably close to the Earth, but there will be a full eclipse. We won’t see another one of these until 2033. You can find incredibly detailed information and viewing times for all regions HERE.

Finally, nail art for nerd girls! I’m just posting the nebula series because they are my favorite. The creators use actual nebulae instead of artistic fabrications because they “didn’t want to piss Neil deGrasse Tyson off.” Bonus points to them! Other great nerd themes await us as well.

Two of my favorite things, astronomy and chocolate, come together in this beautiful Planet Chocolate Set.

Although the chocolatier responsible for this delightful creation is Japanese, Geekosystem posted some comically translated closeups.

Has anyone come across a chocolate box like this in the US?

Aww…how precious.

Of all potential purposes for a saw, I’m surprised they took the “make a life sized fake woman” angle for this ad.

In the many idealizations of beauty I’ve seen from every era, I believe this is the only one that involves having a giant pastry head. When will the media stop setting unrealistic standards?

Sleeping on the Moon

Here is another one of those items I’d love to have if I had ANY space to put it. There’s something almost lonely, yet peaceful and beautiful about a moon body pillow.

This reminds me of a small dialog I had with a friend many years ago.

Me: Sometimes I feel like I’m on my own planet.
Friend: Yes, but you are the ruler of that planet.

I’d like to combine this with one of those celestial projectors that casts constellations on the walls (if anyone has a good suggestion for a fairly inexpensive one, please share!).

The company also makes a smaller size, which for some reason I find less appealing…though rather inspirational as an item I could make myself (I did make astronomy pillows when I was in college).
