This is one of the greatest charity projects I’ve ever seen! Combine unique art, one of my favorite subjects AND one of my favorite organizations (St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital) and you get the “IT’S ALIVE!” Project.
The “Its Alive” Project celebrates eight decades of the Frankenstein Monster by presenting 80 re-imagined Life Size Boris Karloff Frankenstein Busts. Each of the 80 artists have been asked to recreate the monster in their own vision, style and hand.

Read a brief excerpt on the St. Jude mission (and see why I love them!). Source
Today I bring you into the wonderful illustrated world of my dear friend J.E. Larson.
Mad, mysterious, maniacal, macabre creations with the occasional touch of spooky sweetness…fantastic indeed (make sure you read the text on the site as well).
One project I’m extremely enthused about is Man Eating Socks (a collaborative project for which Mr. Larson is providing illustration).
After a fateful trip to a haunted clothing store, young Charles Glint unwittingly brings home a pair of evil socks with a taste for human beings.
Forced to do their bidding, he takes the monsterous clothing to school, turning show-and-tell into an event of unspeakable horror.
Wouldn’t it be great to have some of these characters on cards or t-shirts? Well, you can! Go adopt one today, or Humpty Dumpty shall be very angry with you…
This is always a bittersweet day to post, since I know there are about a thousand more things I’d like to add…and even more that will turn up over the next day or two.
YES! On not only do we have this treat from the National Banana Association…but now we’ve got the WEENIE WITCH flying into town!
This sad ghost (found here) is a wonderful sad ghost…as far as sad ghosts go.
I was linked to this sombre EP by Forest Mountain Hymnal. Soft, gloomy atmosphere (really, how many times can you hear “Monster Mash” this time of year?). Pause that party mix and give THIS a try.
And for educational purposes we have this richly detailed Movie Monster chart (click here for the full version):
Yes, I always thought Frankenstein’s monster’s only real trouble was his hair.
I know it’s only “street art,” but I kind of want to crawl inside…
I actually found some new additions to my vintage Halloween ad collection in this post. Cigarettes!
I’ve got to hand it to Heidi Klum for not only being really into Halloween, but opting to show some muscle instead of skin:
For the Hello Kitty fans out there, enjoy this little feline in the guise of your favorite monsters here:
A ridiculously cute spooky Russian doll garland, downloadable here.
Ugh…I guess at least this is preparing her for her teen years and adulthood when the only pre-made costume choices she’ll have will be slutty cop, slutty bumblebee, slutty nurse, slutty witch, slutty fairy…
