Let the Countdown Begin!

It’s that time again!

I’ll be participating in the Cryptkeeper’s annual blog roundup of countdowns.

About 87% in my poll wanted a month long countdown, 10% wanted two weeks. So to be fair to everyone I will probably do the vast majority of posts with a Halloween theme and a small percentage of others…I think. We’ll see what strikes me.

I’m putting on my party dress (in my imagination) to celebrate.

Wordless Week

Due to my continuing health problems (which make it hard to type…bad pain in the hands and fingers), this coming week is Wordless Week.

As much as I truly enjoy writing commentary and personal reactions to things I post, the show must go on any way it can. There are hundreds of things to share in my queue! I’ll leave it up to you guys to add comments and be my voice.

Guest Author and Theme Week

Some of you may recall me briefly alluding to my precarious health from time to time. For rather complex medical reasons, I’m allowing my trusted cohort The Headless Hearseman to take over the blog for a theme week involving one of my favorite subjects: Vintage Laboratories.

Micro-Blog Week

I have some things to do this week that will prevent spending time on this blog (oh, LIFE!). However, since there are always hundreds of things lurking on my desktop at any given time, I’ve decided to do a little “micro-blogging” instead of my usual posting style.

Expect the usual daily fare, in bite sized pieces (I won’t call them “fun sized” because fun sized candy would actually be more fun if it were bigger…we all know it).

More detailed posts will return ASAP.
The SheWalksSoftly Major Award

Since wordpress sends me a yearly blog status report, I’ve decided to do something special each year for the person who comments most frequently. It shall be known as the SheWalksSoftly Major Award.

This year, the award goes to the author of my favorite creature blog, Real Monstrosities. Congratulations, JJG!

The winner of the Major Award will receive a special handmade (by me) project, custom crafted to suit his or her own interests. I take requests.

I truly appreciate anyone who takes a moment to comment, share the site, send feedback or make posting suggestions. When I began this blog, it was merely an outlet for my own vastly varied odd fascinations. I’ve had a blast doing it, and I’m so glad that others have gotten something out of it as well.

I have very mixed feelings about the site. I steer clear of relentless self-promotion cross posted to every social networking site. So for now my Twitter is only used only for personal musings.

However, I’m starting to understand that people rely on Twitter to signal when their favorite sites are updated. Would an automatic link to SheWalksSoftly posts actually be useful? Please chime in, Twitter crowd:

Gone Neurosciencin’!

In the foreseeable future I will be deeply submerged in the world of neuroscience studies. However, I didn’t want to stop posting here so I’ve stockpiled a number of drafts to go up each day.

Please excuse the relative lack of commentary that accompanies the artsy oddities of the following weeks. I still have countless things to share on a daily basis but my workload will prohibit writing too much about any of them, at least for a little while. So enjoy the pictures, and maybe we can get a little dialogue going in the comments (I’ll surely respond).

By the way, you know you have an awesome best friend when he not only refers to a previous post but honors you in TWO drawings when you’ve got a challenge on the horizon.

Look at me leaping tall buildings in a single bound! It is my not-quite-yet professional medical opinion that doodles heal all.
