The subtle shading makes one feel as if staring at a rug that has spent years in a home and is starting to show a little natural wear and tear. Well done.

Who remembers Body Buddies? I had these as a kid. I think I believed they were healthy because of the deceptive name (and those awesomely strong kids on the box). Dear World, please notify me when sugary corn puffs become healthy. Thanks.

I’m not sure what prompted anyone, ever, to think that grape flavored grains and marshmallows was a good idea. This has to pass…committees and stuff.
I’m sure this got discontinued because no one wanted to bother writing the name on a grocery list. Still, the premise of a robot who shoots out sweetened morsels when tickled was gold.
It’s not cereal, folks. It’s a cereal system, which sounds undeniably sophisticated.

Is there such a thing as “whimsically apocalyptic?” After seeing Albane Simon’s collages, I’m inclined to believe there is.
She does a great deal of work for musicians, using vintage source material to create a delightful surreal, retrofuturistic vibe.

I saw a light up sculpture from Ghost Light Gallery on Instagram and was immediately sold. Her beautiful creatures are often softly illuminated, articulated with moving parts, or they share secret worlds within them.
Her two dimensional work is also quite lovely.

As an artist I have constantly struggled with the burden of creating “relevant” art. I’ve done my best over the years to allow myself to become vulnerable in the public’s eye while at the same time attempting to seem somehow mysterious, as I’m sure most women do. I strive to create things that force the viewer to use both sides of the brain- appreciating the obvious artwork and then through the moving mechanisms, attempting to discover how it is working. These silk screened plaster sculptures appear to be ceramics/china melting onto the table. I love how she extends the patterns!

One of my favorite things about art in general is its ability to reframe the utterly mundane aspects of life in a way that enables us to find beauty where we least expect it. I bet if I asked you to name something beautiful, “Lithuanian garage doors” wouldn’t be first on your list. But Agne Gintalaite saw something in these often ignored structures and created the Beauty Remains project.
In her own words:
I have always been attracted by a peculiar phenomenon of late socialism, large garage areas, called ‘garage towns’ in Lithuanian. Spanning extensive areas, these garages were part of the social fabric…Clearly, such garages were not just a matter of convenience, but rather homes for cars, which in turn were not so much a means of transport, but rather mechanical pets, that required time, attention and an array of extraordinary tools to fix them.
By documenting these objects that are, most likely, about to disappear from Lithuanian society, I wished to communicate to the viewer the ambivalent, aesthetic, but also human significance of these garage doors.
Beautifully [painted], these doors do not need be explained to the beholder. It is the fascinating play of colour and texture that I attempted to capture with my camera.
But in doing that I found myself documenting human dignity: the dignity of the garage owners, elderly, definitely not rich people, who, by sticking to their property, garages, literally maintain their ground in an urban landscape on which big businesses increasingly make claim.
I adore this new painting by Kari-Lise Alexander.
I first saw this detail on Instagram and it completely took my breath away. THOSE HANDS; so delicate and feminine, tinged with an undeniable darkness.
Her work makes the viewer feel as if he or she has glimpsed a private moment in the lives of her subjects, who are often beautiful, graceful women of great depth.
