  • It’s Log!

    January 24th, 2009

Ren and Stimpy fans will appreciate this one. Rare Device has developed a plaster log intended for table decor.

    log

A little log is cast in plaster and ready to be the pride of your desk, dresser or the perfect gift for a friend.

Excluding myself, I can think of very few people who would find this somewhat cumbersome decorative desk accessory a “perfect gift.”

They need to take a lesson from the masters of marketing a dead chunk of tree (seriously, watch and remind yourself how great this was):

I had forgotten about “International Log!”

Okay, so this has been making the blog rounds…but it’s the best chart I’ve seen in a while.

  • Kaleidoscope Colors

    January 23rd, 2009

There is a fantastic post over at Colour Lovers showcasing a series of kaleidoscope photographs.

    kaleidoscope-1

I’ve always been fascinated by kaleidoscopes; the ordered reflection and rotational symmetry, creating stunning ephemeral images. Each time the pieces click into place, something unique yet utterly transitory appears before your eyes.

  • Floating Organ Robots

    January 23rd, 2009

If only these wonderful creations by Mathias Koehler and Alessandro Beda were not just concept toys!

    I want all of them!

  • Hexapod Dance Contest

    January 22nd, 2009

This made me really happy. Not your average dance contest!

  • Vintage 3D

    January 22nd, 2009

I really wish I had a pair of 3D glasses hanging around somewhere (I’m actually surprised that I don’t). The wonderful Agence Eureka has been posting a series of vintage photographs in 3D.

  • Ninja Socks

    January 21st, 2009

    “Damn those tardy ninjas!”

That was the wonderfully unconventional exclamation I heard yesterday, which prompted me to dig out this link.

When I ordered my lovely Ice Cream Socks I wish I stumbled upon these Ninja Socks.

These are definitely going in my shopping cart for my next order from Sock it to Me.

  • Milk

    January 21st, 2009

Another finding from a Russian art site whose origin is a mystery to me. I was really happy when an anonymous commenter knew the origins of Blood Bear, so maybe someone knows where this comes from:

    milk

I love this image; somewhere between a children’s book, screen printed pop art…and a barium upper GI series.

[Edit: Mystery solved by awesome reader! It’s Margarita Sayapina]

  • National Wholesale Liquidators

    January 20th, 2009

Louisa and I hit the National Wholesale Liquidators “going out of business” sale the other day, and it was everything I dreamed it would be.

Rows upon rows of overstocked supplies, peppered with kitsch treasures.

I didn’t actually spend the 39 cents on this book, but was quite entertained by it:
    fashion-magic

Trust me when I tell you that Shell Kepler has gathered enough rhinestones, denim, lace and giant gaudy accoutrements to clothe an entire southern city, circa 1988.

    shell-2

But don’t think she’s all sweetness and wide-eyed charm. Here she is in full “bad girl” regalia, with her daughter no less (perfect ensembles for auto trouble, no? I try to sport a lace-breasted bustier and flowered bloomers whenever my car starts acting up…just in case).

    hitchike

Now we go to the plastic outerwear section, one of my favorites! The “spokesmodels” were supremely androgenous mannequins, better suited for still frames in 80’s new wave videos.

    safety-vest

    Why? Just…why?

    poncho

In the food section, we came across this unconventional treat. Has anyone actually tried Buttered Popcorn Pudding?

    popcorn-pudding

I did end up procuring this useful item for one dollar:

    meat-club

There is actually a The Meat Club: Girls Only website.

And now, my very favorite acquisition, which I have yet to watch because it may be cause to gather some friends for a screening (*drumroll please*):

  • Obamicons

    January 20th, 2009

Most of us have seen the famous HOPE poster by the talented and delightfully subversive Shepard Fairey.

    obama-hope

Now we can all be immortalized in a Shepard-style poster. I did one in honor of my Inauguration celebration this evening:

    shewalkssoftlycom

I try to keep politics off this site…but today is a fine day, indeed.

    Get your own Obamicon here.

The Washington Post has an interesting article about branding, and the subtle levels of the poster’s significance here.
