I have no information about this image, but I think it’s a lovely way to finish up my theme week.

May you all have infinite love and happiness in your lives!

Paul Graves takes balloon sculpting into a whole new arena. Remember being impressed with a balloon dog or mouse as a kid? Well hang onto your hats…

I love this sculpture so much. My only regret is its inevitable deflation.

See an amazing collection of Graves’ balloon sculptures here.

Love Week went by very quickly, and I’m left with a bunch of things I meant to post. So here they are, with minimal explanation.
FOOD:
Chocolate skulls…

This post from Let Them Eat Cake has some of the greatest chocolate skulls I’ve seen.
And now some Love Carrots…

HE(ARTS) and CRAFTS:

Geekalicious Reutersvard inspired heart (Source)

For the knitters.

Paper Ribcage with Heart (one of my favorite Valentine crafts this year).

Just an art piece I find striking (from here)
GREETINGS:

I’ll finish up with one of my favorite passages on Love. Kahlil Gibran has some deeply moving words on the subject. Read them HERE.
I am not a big fan of the term “steampunk” (for reasons I’ll refrain from discussing in this post), but I find myself drawn to the aesthetic. I really adore these “industrial” hearts by Monster Kookies.

Just look at the little mouse in there!

How convenient it would be if the heart was equipped with a power switch.

Check out a few more pictures and descriptions over on crafter or the official website.
Standard greetings cards can be so trite. I love when card makers mix it up a bit, like Order of St. Nick. They have a fantastic series of Depressing Times Valentine Cards, which are ironically appropriate in our suffering economy.

And you can never go wrong with nihilist love notes, as evidenced by their Nietzsche Valentine Set.
(caption reads “A pair of powerful spectacles has sometimes sufficed to cure a person in love.”)

I recommend Order of St. Nick for your unconventional greeting card needs.
Street Anatomy posted this photograph last month (a marvelous editorial, in my opinion):

Let’s face it. Sometimes love makes us feel this way. I’ve yet to meet someone who hasn’t been metaphorically blended to bits over “love” at least once in this lifetime. However, all have emerged stronger and wiser for it.
I give much credit to artonthemenu for crafting these wonderful pastry sculptures, entirely out of cardboard and paper.

My only problem is that from afar they look delicious, and upon closer inspection I can’t help but get the imaginary taste of cardboard in my mouth and inadvertently envision how rough they’d feel to chew on.

I’m sure these would make very memorable gifts, or 3D “greetings.”

If the butcher knives in my previous post didn’t tickle your romantic fancy, here’s a short animation about cephalopods in love. Such a testament to the lengths we will go to for one another!
Oh Elizabeth McGrath…I am so in love with your work…*SWOON*
Ms. McGrath is selling these hand painted butcher knives to get us all in the spirit of Valentine’s Day! Unfortunately, they are currently sold out.

Even the ones without Valentine themes are delightful. For example, this “luck monkey” knife:

Although many would beg to differ, this is exactly the kind of offbeat romantic gesture I find beautiful.
Check out the whole selection here.
This one is for my wonderful tech geek friends. They are a shortbread incarnation of traditional message hearts.
