This is the best parody of a mid-20th century “progress” video I’ve ever seen. Oh the glamor!

AmO Images has a wonderful photography feature on the “Life of Gummy Bears.” Various submissions depict these chewy treats in real world situations.
Working…

Attempting to “escape”…

At the scene of a grisly murder…

I wonder if anyone has done a “photo a day” blog using this concept over an extended period of time. I, for one, would be a faithful reader.
Oh, and check out this related post I made a while back.
I think one of the reasons I enjoy Samara Golden’s work so much is that I’m never sure what’s going on upon first glance.

She composes installations out of mixed media, found objects and video projection. The result is a kind of sensory barrage that makes the observer wonder where one object ends and another begins (I admit there are a few rooms in my house that probably evoke the same response).

What is a reflection, a projection, an object?

See more intriguing installations here.
I am seriously impressed with Untamed Menagerie’s jewelry creations on Etsy.

I think I’d wear any one of their stainless steel or acrylic silhouettes.
They’ve got my favorite flower, the lotus:

Some macabre delights…

A few choice Alice in Wonderland quotes…

Some abstract beauties…

Even better, the prices are very reasonable for such unique, fine work. Check out the rest here.
Coolest ten seconds I’ve seen in a while.
I can relate to this creature sometimes.
Monster Brains just featured a great collection of vintage sci-fi book cover art. I have a few favorites from the bunch.
This one definitely warrants a caption contest. What exactly is the facial expression on the giant fish creature as he drains the blood of the young boy? Is he awestruck? Terrified? Aroused?

This enormous, lush-lipped bat seems to have whole forests on its hind quarters, and possibly a castle:

And you have to commend the imagination of this psychedelic, robotic, architectural, ant infested, lupine, space-collage skull…thing:

Environmental Graffiti has an amazing post about alien caterpillars.

These creatures are truly incredible. Some are strangely beautiful…

Some appear to be straight out of science fiction…

Couldn’t resist the bad pun title, since this pair of vein and artery hosiery costs 41,00 Euros. I enjoy finding anatomical objects I would NOT purchase.

Though I must admit, this item gave me the idea. With a few Sharpies and extra pantyhose, I could dress up as a Visible Woman for Halloween.
Metaphorical sculptures don’t always come cheap these days. I love the concept and design of this heart of glass, but can’t afford it (even if a portion of the proceeds do go to the American Heart Foundation).
…and I can never hear the term “heart of glass” in any context without thinking of the Blondie song.

Here is one DIY furniture piece I never would have envisioned: a magazine coffee table.

Designer Vered Zaykovsky constructed this table out of glass and six identical magazine copies.

Believe it or not, there is no cutting or gluing involved…only the careful and precise interweaving of the paper.
